Status of data loading

Hello,

in the load section of the historical data window the current status of the loading process obviously shall be shown in the buttom line. When selecting an instrument list (containing several symbols) for downloading only the first symbol is shown in the buttom line which does not change during the whole downloading process. Therefore it is impossible to estimate the remaining time of the loading process. Can someone confirm the not changing status information?

In NT7 the currently loaded symbol and timeframe is shown in the status line of the control center which is very useful in my point of view. Can this feature also get integrated into NT8 again and ideally with a percentage number of completion of the requested data loading?

Thanks for your post.

So far I have seen mixed results when testing, including the other instruments in the list quickly appearing towards the end of the download process. I will do some further research on my end to find what would be expected and follow up here with more informtion.

I've also seen the same problem, in that when downloading data for a number of instruments the progress isn't updated and in a lot of cases is very quickly refreshed with all the instruments whilst NinjaTrader is obviously still downloading the data (you can see the network usage in task manager etc...). This is further confirmed by checking that the data doesn't already exist, i.e. it isn't going through the instruments very quickly as the data already exists.

As a workaround I've been creating a strategy with all the instruments and timeframes, with no trading logic so that it downloads the missing data in a more predictable manner.

Using a strategy sounds quite smart to me. Is it possible to do this within the strategy wizard? If not, could you please share the relevant code for adding instruments and timeframes within a strategy? This would help me a lot in doing the same.

Hello Drew,

have you finished the testing and found a conclusion on the behaviour of the status bar?
On my side I have seen that daily data coming from kinetic always are shown reasonably in the status bar. But intraday data from IB are not shown correctly in the status bar while downloading. There I see only the first symbol even if in the background the other symbols get loaded. Therefore it is hardly possible to get a feeling regarding the remaining downloading time.

We have found that this is likely due to some data providers allowing for multiple downloads to occur simultaneously. To work around this, a status bar is currently being considered as a possible enhancements in a future edition of the platform.
