Stop Limit orders not submitting the limit order

I'm using stop limit orders on a thin market. ( pairs of oco orders placed in NT8 using trader trader). Sometimes when the market moves fast past my stop I find that no limit order is submitted. The stop orders remain open even though the market has moved past the price of one of them.

I have not checked time and sales but I'm assuming that on the occasions when the limit order is not submitted no trades took place at the stop price. Instead the market jumped past it.

This has happened twice in the past two weeks.

This is unexpected. I expected the logic to be such that if the market trades at OR past the stop price that the stop condition is met and that the subsequent depended order is placed. But that's not what happened. Why?

    Hello Brillo,

Thank you for posting in our forum. Using Stop Limit orders, it is possible for these orders to not fill, if there is not enough volume at that particular price level. To resolve this, you can try increasing the offset value of your Stop Limit orders (usually in ticks) to give more room for the order to fill, or try using Stop Market orders for your stop loss orders.

For more information on order types, I have included a useful link below.

In circumstances where there's not enough volume I expect to see the stop order triggered and a limit order submitted that remained unfilled. Instead I just see the stop order sitting there while the market trades past it. That's weird and should not be.

I have seen this also happen many times with both simulated trading and with paper trading with live data feed. I create a stop limit order with the prices matching, or with the stop price one cent lower then the limit price. As an example for a buy stop limit order, I might set the limit at 10.03 and the stop at 10.02. here is an example using the simulator. For the order here, the limit order is 65.17 stop price were set to 65.17. My expectation is that the stop order becomes a limit order once the price passes 65.17. Now since the price kept rising, it might not have been able to fill the 65.17.

If I make the price of the limit lower then the stop I get the expected behavior. The stop limit order becomes a limit order once the price passes and then the limit order fills whenever the conditions are met. When the stop limit order has the limit price at or above the stop order, it will stay as a Stop Limit Order until it fills. I have had numerous cases where the price moves above and below for several minutes without ever filling the stop limit order and its unclear to me why it won't fill.

This occurs with the simulator only? Or you observe this behavior with live trades?

It happens with both the simulated data feed and with live data but using paper accounts.

i would like to test this in Market Replay, however, I'll need to know a time (including time zone) and instrument which you last observed this behavior. Can you clarify this for me? If you have more than one example, please provide them.

I'll make note this week when it happens and post back a instrument and time for you when it does.

                    Hi,
                    Is this problem solved?
I'm having this same problem with orders "Stop Limit", exactly like in the picture shared in post #5 the market goes through the order and nothing happens, the order is never filled.
This situation occurs randomly, which is not always. This happens in real accounts and in Playback connections.

                    Thank you in advance!

Here there are 2 pictures showing this problem:

                      Hi,
Today I have the same problem with the live account:
The first order was taken correctly, but the second order was not filled.

                      Help, please.

                      Thank you in advance!

                        Hi PatrickG,
Is ok if I write here requesting help with this same problem, or have I to create a new post?
                        Thank you.
