    Trend Line Alert

I have just copied this thread because is very important to add this function to the NJ and even Quotracker has it. You draw any line you want, click on the line and then appears a window that let you set the alarm or the fibonacci retracements or other properties and if you decide to set up the alarm you have another window. Please consider this option with urgence. I enclose a picture for inspiration....

On the other hand, drawings lines into a chart is a must, so NJ should let users to do it directly over the charts without going into a menu.

I would like to suggest you add the ability to draw a trend line on a chart and apply an alert to it-so that if it is touched or broken from above or below (these would be settings)--an alert would be triggered.

For some reason this seems to be one of those features that almost all traders want but few packages provide and would be a really useful tool.

To be clear, this is not simply the ability to set a price alarm, but allows the drawing of a line (of any angle)--and the line is projected to the right-hand edge automatically and the alert is adjusted to be the intersection of the current time and that line...

Thanks for your suggestion. We'll add it to the list of future considerations.

I would second that. I like to just drop a horizontal line on the screen and drag it to a level (price) that I want to be alerted to. Something quick and easy. The alert should be configureable to just trigger once. Tradestation has a very good implementation of this.

      thanks,

Please consider an alert option on the Vertical Line Draw tool....

        Thanks

          Hi Alfred,

Thank you for your suggestion. I have sent it to to our development team and asked them if they can add this to the list of future considerations for the software.

Laserdan and Elliot Wave are you chiming in in support of a Verical Line Alert? And Alfred how would an alert on a Vertical Line be triggered?

Definitely. The other day I posted how I would like be able to have my manually drawn objects (trendlines etc) be accessible from strategies. That would allow trades to trigger automatically based on trendline breaks, and of course using 'play sound' is simple at that point.

In the meantime if someone really wanted alerts a custom indicator could be made (autotrendline which has alerts built in could be a starting point). Basically it would have four main variables: start time, start price, end time, end price. It would be more cumbersome to enter the information manually than just drawing it there, but at least you could have alerts and use it within a strategy. Then when the market analyzer finally gets Cross Above, Cross Below conditions (hint hint) it could be used there as well.

Oh I forgot to add, for text alerts have the option to use MsgBox alerts! The alerts window is hopelessly flawed in my opinion. We have the stupid splash screen that stays on top of everything as well as those brilliant "You can't cancel me, but I'll stay on top of every application and annoy you with useless information" dialogs, but actual alerts just sit there in the background hiding, hoping to catch your attention sometime well after you needed to be alerted.

Elliot Wave, I think you misunderstood my question. I'm all for trendline alerts and can understand why others want them, but the concept of a "Vertical" Line Alert I can't grasp. Prices don't trade "through" a vertical line, so what would be the alert trigger for a vertical line?

I missed the whole thing about the vertical part. Without some kind of vertical change over time, a line can't be a "trend" line as far as I can tell.

Triggering through a vertical line would be useful to trigger time alerts. This could be useful for fibonacci time extensions etc. It would also be useful for news releases. Just draw a vertical line when a news release is scheduled and when the price trades through the line you are alerted. Personally I support the flexibility for alerts on all drawn objects.

Ah yes. If you could draw a vertical line in the future to trigger a time alert that would be nice. Maybe have the ability to write some vertical text along the line justified to either the top or the bottom of the chart.

I like the text idea. It would make it easier to know what the trigger is for.

If the drawn objects could trigger alerts I would probably prefer to use a rectangle for a 'time window' around news alerts. This would be useful for strategies to either enter trades during the news releases or exit trades before major news to avoid volatility etc.

For myself I would use this alert idea like this .... say you have identified a chart point of interest in the future where you possibly expect some particular action of some sort...you could then set the vertical line (with an alert) perhaps several bars before your point of interest to remind you to monitor the situation.

As a possible option...when setting up the alert, perhaps allow enabeling the alert "X" bars before the line itself.

                            Thanks....

my vote was for both types of alerts: TrendLine and Vertical line
