How to have multiple periods for moving average?

Please help. Can you add multiple periods - 10,20,50, and 200 periods for a simple or exponential moving average on a single chart like on eur/dollar or futures chart? Or is there someone who can direct me to a third party app link?

I'm new here and new to trading so need some help. I would greatly appreciate some direction and not sure if this is the proper area to post this. Thank all of you in advance for providing tips and directions.

What are you asking? It is a bit unclear.

Can you add one indicator to the chart?

If you can, then add the same moving average multiple times to the chart, and adjust the periods as necessary.

      Hello stocksrus411,

      Thanks for posting.

Could you please provide some further details regarding what you are seeking?

Are you inquiring about adding multiple moving average indicators to the same chart with different period settings?

          Hello,

          Thanks for your note.

This appears to be multiple moving averages applied to the same chart with different Period settings. You can add indicators to a chart by right-clicking within the chart and selecting "Indicators." Once an indicator is selected, click "New" to add it to the chart. Once added, you can edit the indicator's parameters-- including Period settings and color/visual settings. More information at the below link:

Thank you for the info. Please let me know if my understanding is correct. So these are steps:
            1. Go open a chart
            2. Go to the top of the chart and click indicators icon.
            3. Scroll down the indicators list and double click SMA.
            4. Then for the 10 period go to the Parameters and change the period to 10.
            5. For the 20 period, scroll down the indicators list again and double click SMA again.
            6. Then go to the Parameters and change the period to 20.
            7. For the 50 and 200 period do steps 3 and 4 again.
            Is this correct?

              Hello,

              Thank you for your reply.

Yes, these steps are exactly what you need. Once you have added your SMA's and configured the properties for each, just click the "OK" button.

Please let us know if we may be of further assistance.

Thanks for the confirmation. Final 2 questions:

                1. How can you shade(color) the region between simple average plot 10 and 20 period?

                2. Is the free version only good for two weeks?

                  Hello,

                  Thank you for your reply.

                  1. This isn't something that is native to the platform, however I was able to find an indicator on the support forum that should work for you. The link is below:

                  http://ninjatrader.com/support/forum...ad.php?t=78456

I downloaded both indicators (ColoredRegions.zip and SMACrossIndicator.zip) and both worked for me. Of course please be careful when downloading any unknown scripts to your computer as some could be harmful.

From your description, I think the "ColoredRegions.zip" is what you are looking for.

                  2. The free version of the NinjaTrader Software has no time limit for use, however the demo username and password will generally last about two weeks as this is controlled by the CME.

                    Hello,

Thank you for all your help. You have helped to speed up my learning curve and save me time. I will try the shading of the region. Once again, thank you.

                      Step by step guide needed

                      Hello again,

I tried but couldn't color the region between the 10 and 20 period SMA. Not technically savvy.
Can you provide a step by step guide?
I would greatly appreciate it. I've attached the picture for your reference. The brown line is the SMA 10 period and the purple line is the SMA 20 period. I want to color the region between the 10 and 20.

                        Hello,

                        Thank you for your reply.

I apologize for not explaining further. I've tested this indicator out on my side and I'm listing the step by step instructions below for getting the region coloring setup.

                        1. Right click on the open chart and left click on "Indicators..."
                        2. On the left hand side of the "Indicators" window, scroll down and left click on "ColoredRegions"
                        3. At the bottom of the "Indicators" window left click on the "New" button
                        4. On the right side of the "Indicators" window under "Moving Average", set the Moving Average Type for the first Moving Average by left clicking in the box to the right of "MAType1" and then using the drop down arrow to choose the Moving Average Type.
                        5. Repeat step 4 to set the Moving Average Type for the second Moving Average, "MAType2"
                        6. Next, set the number for Moving Average 1 in the box next to "MA1" under "Parameters"
                        7. Repeat step 6 for "MA2"
                        8. Then under "Visuals", you can change the colors by clicking in the box next to "Down_Color" / "Up_Color" and then clicking on the drop down arrow to choose a different color.
                        9. Next, under "Visuals", you can also choose the "Opacity" (darkness or lightness) of the color in the box next to "Down_Opacity" / "Up_Opacity". Higher number the darker and lower number the lighter the color.
                        10. Then, under "Plots" at the bottom of the window you can click the "+" plus in front of "Plot1" and/or "Plot2" to change the line properties, color, width and style.
                        11. Lastly, click the "OK" button

Please let us know if we may be of further assistance.
