    8.3.1 update won't install, undefined error & now NT won't run properly

    Hi,

    My title sums it up: I ran the installation for the latest update, but it stopped because of an error (undefined). The message said only to try again later. Now when I restart NT the program keeps hanging up and my various charts just go black, and eventually the program shuts down.

    I've tried redownloading the install and running it again, but the same thing happened.

    Thank you for your post,

    I suggest running the below, publicly available Fix It utility by Microsoft. This program is able to look into many Windows items that may be stopping the install, first use it to Uninstall NinjaTrader.

    Then, once these steps are completed, download and install NinjaTrader from the link below (make sure NinjaTrader is closed).

    Let me know if you see the same after taking these steps.

      Hello out of interest what is 8.0.3.1 as it keeps flashing message - yet when i go to announcements there is no release notes or details of what it is?

        Thanks for the quick response, Eric. Should I also delete(rename) the NinjaTrader 8 folder in the Documents folder?

          Thank you for your reply,

          Your saved workspaces, custom indicators and settings are stored in the Documents > "NinjaTrader 8" folder, so deleting/renaming the folder then running the installer will create a new, blank installation for NinjaTrader to use. You can shutdown and reverse the naming so your old installation will be loaded, however.

          I wouldn't recommend doing this right away, but if you see the same issue with the charts and shut down when attempting to launch again, it would be a good way to determine if NinjaTrader is able to run at all on your PC now, or if the issue was with the older installation.

          I also suggest attempting to launch in Safe Mode.


          1. Close NinjaTrader 8
          2. Hold the Ctrl Key + double click the NinjaTrader 8 icon (best done from the Desktop, continue to hold Ctrl until NT is launched).
          3. When launched, the NinjaTrader 8 splash screen that appears when loading should say Safe Mode.



          This will cause NinjaTrader to launch without your saved workspaces and also will Connect on Startup disabled.

          Try opening up a new chart via the New menu. Make sure, when opening the chart, to select <None> from the top right "Load the following chart template" drop down menu.

            Thank you for your reply.

            Thank you for reporting, it appears the 8.0.3.1 Release Notes are currently down. I have let our Product Management team know and they will be working on restoring it.

            This update fixed an issue with the ATM Strategy selection drop-down menus keeping closed strategies a few seconds longer than normal.

                It appears Symantec Endpoint Protection is what is stopping the installation, I suggest temporarily disabling this and attempting the installation again. If you are using the For Business version, you'll likely need to contact your network administrator to disable.

                  since I can't disable symantec I will stay with older version of NT8 until something changes.

                    Inhibt Symantec to install NT 8.03 (just 15 min)

                    Open Norton ==> Click on Security

                    Next window go to Advanced == > click on it

                    In WEB section, for me last line, there is Informations About Download ==> Turn it off

                    Now go to Ninjatrader page download the installer do all the process.

                    At the end Open NT 8.03 , open anything, connect your data provider... It´s just to test.

                    Then return to Norton and activate Information About Download.

                    Remember it´s important to open NT8.03 after install before activate Norton, if you do not do so it will erase everything again.

                      release notes still not available

                      yet there is still nothing there ...

                      as i do i waited to install 8.0.3 which is prudent as N8 evolves still.

                      Yet when i go to download 8.0.3 is not available the prior release is 8.0.2
                      this is incorrect and STILL there are no release notes and so still i do not know what installing and wary given some of the support notes on this

                      please update this this is poor quality release control

                        Sorry for any inconvenience; I can confirm all parties involved are aware of the issue to restore the Release Notes.

                        8.0.3.0 is not available because of the behavior I mentioned in my last post.

                          Thanks for the information , Eric. I used the microsoft tool to uninstall NT8 and was then able to install the new version. However, I had the same problem with charts turning black and the application freezing, so I removed my workspaces folder and then rebuilt the workspace using my stored templates. Now it appears to be running correctly.

                          This reminds me of the old problems with corrupted workspaces that used to occur in NT7, which was something I'd hoped we'd left behind.... Do you have any ideas on how what may be causing this, so I can avoid such problems in the future?

                            It would be difficult to say when we don't know the cause of the issues, if you do use third-party items, we have seen this cause issues like you describe.
