    glitches

    Hello,

I am getting ready to sign up for NinjaTrader. I have been using Tradestation. I am leaving TradeStation because every once in a awhile when I am in a trade the system will not get me out at my stop. It will pass my stop and I will lose more money than I was supposed to. At the same time the system will not allow me to close out of my position. I was wondering if the same thing happens on the NinjaTrader platform. Does the Ninja trader experience these types of glithes as well? I would expect that if I place an order with stops that the system would get me out at my stops or out with some slippage. I just want to know before I move everything over to Ninjatrader if this is just a common problem. I do not know how anybody can make any money trading if they can't depend on the system to get them out at their stops. I would appreciate any insight on this. Thanks in advance.

    Hello,

    Thanks for your note.

Not being able to close a position would likely be unexpected behavior in NinjaTrader, but it would be possible for the market to move past an order's price. This would not necessarily be a limitation of the platform, but part of the nature of order submission-- especially so in a highly volatile market.

One disadvantage of the stop order is that the order is not guaranteed to be filled at the preferred price the investor states. Once the stop order has been triggered, it turns into a market order, which is filled at the best possible price. This price may be lower than the price specified by the stop order.

Thanks. I understand that there might be slippage especially in a fast moving market which I trade but what I am referring to is quite different. In my case it blew past my stop and did not close out my order even after I pushed the close button. It took a two full minutes after it past my stop before it closed my position. It sounds like this is not common to NinjaTrader. I am happy to hear that. Thanks for the quick response.

If you read any disclaimer about market prices and order fills - Anything is possible and there are no guarantees.

Was the market fast moving? Major news announcement?

Was your data stream lagging? (Not sure where you are located - but you can search the forums for NT7 for non-USA people having issues during FED releases with serious lag)...

I haven't had any issues state side in normal market mode with ES e-mini. I place a market order and all is good. I don't trade during FED releases.
