    instrument database

Hi, I've spent a lot of time with NT8 adding instruments into the instrument manager and deleting some of the instruments I never use.

    1) How can I back this up so I don't lose all my work?
    2) I'm also worried that when I update my NT8 software, the original lists might be restored. Is that true, and if so how can I prevent that from happening?

    1. You can use the built-in backup feature of the platform to create a backup of your NinjaTrader:

    2. Upgrading to a new version of the platform should not overwrite any of your custom settings.

Thanks, Patrick. But instruments I delete keep repopulating after I restart NT. Not all of them, but some random ones like stock FL.

Just to test it out, in NT8 I tried deleting all instruments except ES, then restarted the program and a handful of futures are back in the list, about 20 stocks, and almost all FOREX. What's happening? I've done this 5 times now.

I could not reproduce this behavior. Here are the steps I took:
        • Tools > Instruments
        • Select 'Stock' from the 'Type' drop down list
        • Delete all stocks except for AAPL > OK
        • Restart NinjaTrader

Upon restart, AAPL was the only available stock in the instruments window.

If the steps you're taking are different, can you provide more detail?

What version of NinjaTrader 8 are you using? You can check under Help -> About (Example: 8.0.X.0)

          I am using 8.0.5.0

If I only do the steps you outline above (i.e. only delete stocks) there is no problem after restart. However, if I then use those same steps to delete FUTURES (all futures except ES), then after restart the stocks will be back in the database, as well as the futures. Very strange.

I was able to reproduce a similar behavior to yours, but not the exact behavior. I have reported this to the Development Team and we are tracking it as QA-2885.

In the meantime, please upgrade to the most recent version of NinjaTrader 8 (8.0.5.2) and test again:

To upgrade NinjaTrader, please follow the steps below.
            • First get your license key from NinjaTrader under Help> License Key then exit NinjaTrader
            • Click on the link: http://ninjatrader.com/PlatformDirect
            • Enter your license key and press Submit
            • Select 'NinjaTrader 8'
            • Select 'Download'
            • Critical: Before running the installer, ensure NinjaTrader is closed.

Please let me know the results of testing while following the same steps.

Running 8.0.5.2 and same issue. Looking forward to it being resolved. Thanks for your help.
