Default Parameter that defines vertical scaling of a panel?

Is there a variable or parameter that describes the vertical scaling in a panel? I'm trying to draw text on the panel but due to the dynamic scaling it is sometimes difficult to read. I like the the dynamic scaling for this indicator so fixed scaling is not an option.

regards,

taddypole...
