Beginner Help with Backtesting

I have reviewed a plethora of posts, but I have not found an answer to my simple question. I would like to test my strategy against a stock at some some point in the past, and increment the chart one bar/candlestick at a time.

Ex. (Dates are random on purpose)
Data Series - INTC from June 1, 2003 to June 1, 2004 Daily Chart
Apply indicators/oscillators, analysis, etc.
Determine trade or make trade (the latter being better)
Add June 2, 2004 bar/cs to chart.
Add June 3, 2004 bar/cs to chart
...
Add July 1, 2004 bar/cs to chart.
At this point I would like to have the ability to determine exactly what I would have made, but I would be more than happy if not.


Is this possible with the current edition(7)?

I would like to be able to do this with any stock available at any timeframe available.

Welcome to the NinjaTrader forums!

The backtesting feature goes through all bars available for the test period at once. There's unfortunately no way to stop it and then increment day by day.

What you want to do is possible with market replay, but you need the data available for this. You can start recording this from your own installation going forward, but there's no source available for historical stock market replay files.

Thank you for your quick response, I was slowly coming to this conclusion. I will have to play with the Market Replay idea, I appreciate the suggestion.

Would a custom script be an option?

Unfortunately a custom script wouldn't work around this, as there's no way to halt backtesting programatically and then advance day by day.
