Relevance of CQG Continuum data feed

I use NT 8 free for currency futures with the free CQG Continuum data feed for testing.

Now I wonder, how relevant these level II data are for trading decisions?

After reading all I found about data feeds I still don't know, what these data actually represent?

What I mean is, I'm not interested in data of thausands of clueless retail traders, but in what the "Institutions", the big boys and the "Smart Money" do. Is that partly in there, or not at all, or where? Any filters for data feed content?

    Thanks for enlightenment,
    Dan

    Hello Dan,

While I cannot answer any questions about trading advice, I did want to mention NinjaTrader is able to show and track the Market Marker or ECN (Electronic Communications Network) in the Level II window.

This thread will remain open for the community to answer your questions specific to interpreting the Level II information.

        Hello memonic,

You may be able to find more data from a 3rd party source.

Below are a few publicly available links to 3rd party sources of tick data.

Provides research-ready historical intraday data for global stock, futures, forex, options, cash indices and market indicators.

            Hello memonic,

Kinetick historical data can be used for backtesting.

When requesting tick data with Kinetick between the hours of 9:30am ET to 4:30pm ET you will have access to 8 days of historical tick data. If you request the data outside those hours the full 180 days is available. After you request the data, it will be downloaded to your historical database and cache, and you will be able to access this data at any time.

I am using NT Continuum, where do I look up information about historical minute/tick data limitation? Thank you.

                Hello Pedro,

There would not be a place you can look up the data limitations for a connection.

With Continuum / CQG connections tick data is available for up to 360 days previous to the current date. Minute and daily data is limited and will go back as far as was recorded on the server.
