How to import data into NT from Sierra Charts

    Hi there,

I currently have some data on my Sierra Charts platform (SC), ES data and NYSE TICK data, that I would like to export to NT.

I am planning on using NT exclusively.

PLease could you provide some instruction as to how to export this data.

Thank You and have a great day!

    Hello teenagemutantNT,

Thank you for your post. I'm not familiar with the process for exporting historical data from Sierra Charts, their support would best be able to advise on this process.

One exported, in order to import the data into NinjaTrader, the data must be in a Text file (.txt) and be in a particular format depending on what type of data you're importing (tick, minute, or daily data).

Please see the below section of our help guide for information on importing / exporting historical data with NinjaTrader.

      Updated ImportType version for NT8

      Hello,

I was trying to import Sierrachart tick data into NT7/NT8.
Unfortunatelly, there is no direct path. So I found in the older thread by Zweistein a script which he shared in order to do the similar job for NT7. This was back in 2009
I took it and merged that script with import templates for NT8. The result is a kind of attached "hack" which imports tick data from Sierrachart (R1540) into NT 8.0.6.0.
      The known limitations.
      • Tested only for Sierrachart Tick data, R1540. Dataset was YM 2017 Futures
      • SC data should be exported with timestamp in UTC TZ
      • Timezone conversion to local TZ is switched off in the script. NT8 seems to do it by default.
      • NT8 seems to be unable to import files having more than 999.999 lines. It's important to split the SC input file into smaller chunks if necessary
      • Import file name must be properly named, e.g. YM 03-17.txt, otherwise NT8 will not recognize the instrument

      Should be installed into:
      c:\Users\User\Documents\NinjaTrader 8\bin\Custom\ImportTypes\

Script is invoked through normal NT8 menu sequence:
      Tools-Import-Historical Data
Make sure, you select Sierrachart Format in Import pane as well as Last for Data Type and UTC TZ for the source file.

In case you mess up the NT data, you can always remove Tick data from NT and retry.
No guarantee, this will work for future releases

        Solution

        Hello pals,
I had same problem, so I made myself console app which remake sierra chart tick data to minute data suitable for NT8 - I can adjust it to do anything else with data.

If there is anybody who would like to get app, just write me email to [email protected] and I will send it to you within 3 days.

        Profitable trading to all,
        Bye guys
