Should I use Ninja Trader 8 or 7?

    Hello,

I am new to Ninja Trader and I am using Ninja Trader 7 with a vendor indicator and strategy, so I am experienced with that platform.

I would like to start developing, back testing, and live automating some trading strategies.

Should I use NT 7 or 8? I am somewhat new to #C programming.

    Thanks

Nothing wrong with NT7. The learning curve you'll go through will serve you well if/when you migrate to NT8. That is, the vast majority of your NT7 knowledge will not need to be thrown away for NT8 -- in my experience, huge amounts of NT7 knowledge appear to be equally applicable to NT8.

However, if you come across a reason to specifically use NT8 in your strategies, well, there's your real answer. Until then, NT7 is perfectly fine.

      Greetings simple_goodoboy,

To answer the topic question, bltdavid is right. If you are comfortable with NinjaTrader 7, learning to develop strategies in NinjaTrader 7 will be useful for you as a first step and will only make understanding NinjaScript in NinjaTrader 8 easier.

Many users report that a good first step before fully learning C# is to go through the NinjaTrader 7 NinjaScript tutorials in the help documentation to get a fundamental grasp on .NET framework and how it is used in NinjaScript.

You can view the tutorials for NinjaTrader 7 here: https://ninjatrader.com/support/help...?tutorials.htm

Other users have wrote in about getting started with NinjaScript in our support forums here: http://ninjatrader.com/support/forum...d.php?p=488807

Also available are webinars on the NinjaScript editor. I will link them below.

Please also take the time to review the developing strategies documentation for a complete understanding of building strategies within NinjaScript.

Back testing strategies can be done using the Strategy Analyzer. The documentation linked below also contains tutorial videos on how to use the Strategy Analyzer and how to back test a strategy with it.
