Problem, import data is successful but chart does not display the data series

OK, I have worked on this project for 24 hours without success, it is time to ask for help

Problem, import data is successful but chart does not display the data series

    Method used:
I have created a synthetic continuous daily price data set in a text file about 5 1/4 years long. It now imports successfully.
    ex. of format 20070322;12439.72;12532.03;12352.21;12455.14;10
This is standard date, OHLC and volume.
See footnote below about the last field

As this is a synthetic data set of a price series it wont be listed on any exchange,

In Instrument manager, set these parameters.to create an instrument in NT

Available master instruments> Click new button to create new instument
    2 sections
    : 1st is definition
I gave it a name DOWSN and also came back later to additionally create the name DSN to try it this way too.
Template set from 24hr to US equities RTH
For Exchange: Later NT requested I need an exchange, so Default
    and NYSE selected
    2nd is Misc:
    skipped commission
next symbol map; this is confusing here as this is a synthetic index.
Past this step I got an error message requesting a map
to the above symbol....Multiple selections are allowed....selections
external is most relevant and TT ,,,my data feed,, also selected in
    case NT looks for this
The instruments DOWSN and DSN added to instrument list to the left on instrument manager.
I have set the above as such because I have found no documentation for how to handle the elements that raise questions to the above case. Such as how long can an instrument name be for a particular exchange. Or how to set an exchange for a synthetic data set.

In historical data manager > Import
Format: NT ....end of bar time
    Bar type...Last
Time zone.... For Daily data I have found any setting UTC or my local time works.

    Click Start import

A selection box comes up with the Import file for the data set described above.
The data text file as above must be placed in NT>Import found in MYComputer>
MYDocuments. It must be named Textfile.last.txt... In this case DOWSN.last or
    DSN.Last.
Choose the test file as above and click Open
A dialog box comes up that import was successful..

    Make a Chart
Go to Flie>New>Chart ...A Data Series box comes up
    Choose DOWSN and Click New
Adjust the days data to load under data
    Click OK

    ************************************************** ********
This is the Location of the problem.
A Blank chart comes up with a price range of 0 to .01
    ************************************************** *********

How do I get a chart to show this synthetic data file I have made.

No tinkering to the above will get a chart with data to come up
    Including the footnote below

    footnote/////\\\\
after completing downloading or importing data, NT must be closed and then reopened to show the new data.( accept if the data is downloaded and it is already
    the next day).

    Footnote on data format:
The last field ";10 " as in above example must contain data.. Without it the import function would not work. It did not work with just ; or ;0

    Platform NT7.0.1000.10 64 bit

    Computer windows 7 Home premium

Kyle,,, Thank you for looking into this problem

I will send a copy of my post, the data file and all of the screen shots as needed to perform in sequence from beginning to end.

Please look into the other issues i raise in the post which are not central to the charting problem esp. having to close and open NT to see an import on a chart.

      Thanks DeniOne

          Hi Guys,

Was there a fix for this data issue. I have the data on my machine and cant load it. I can see it in my files but NT7 wont use it. I am scared to click reload all historical data because I get holes all through my charts. I have unchecked use FXCM for historical data. The funny thing is I have 1 chart with 460 days of 60 min data but cant creat another one.

          any help appreciated.
          Thanks Raef

              Hi ChelseaB,
No text file just the existing data on my machine. I have from 1/jan/2010 but NT7 wont load past 1/jan/2013.
I am limited to tools I have to repair with, I only have a sledge hammer but am prepared to give it a go. LOL.
FXCM data provider but I have unchecked them as supplying historical data.
Why wont NT7 get the data from my machine??
Why wont NT7 do as its told??

Dear Sir, I am from India. I have been using Ninjatrader for the last three years without any problem. I have used it on windows xp and windows 7 without problem. I have been updating my data through the import via Historical data manager regularly after downloading my data of different stocks in text format. I never faced any problem. Recently there was a problem in my computer. So, I had to reformat it and then I installed Ninjatrader 7 anew and then updated it from my backup file. I have windows 7 as OS with service pack 1 and dot net 4.5 set up installed.
After installing NT7 I have been facing a very strange problem.. when I try to update/import new data as usually... although it says Data imported successfully.. it in reality imports no new data. Even log file shows no error. But no new data is being imported. I have checked.. there is no problem in my data. But I can see it clearly that after clicking it almost instantly shows Data Imported successfully .. while earlier it used to take time and I could always see data being imported stock after stocks.. as I have around 40 stocks whose IEOD data I import regularly. That is such a difficult problem I am facing that has made me almost handicapped as for want od data update I can hardly use my NT7 for charting purpose. Please help sir. It is urgent. I will be very grateful to you. Thanks & Regards. Many Adam

                      Same issue

                      Hi NinjaTrader support staff

I'm new to NinjaTrader 7. I just bought data from kibot.com and followed the steps on how to import data into NT7. At the end of the process, I got message saying that the historical data was imported successfully. However, when I try to load the chart it came up empty. Can you please let me know what I did wrong?
                      Thank you for your help.

                        Hello Ryufutures,

Does the format of the historical data txt file match the format shown in the help guide?
What is the filename of the file you are importing?

Does the format of the data match the format shown in the help guide?

Does any data shown in the Historical Data Manager?

(Tools -> Historical Data Manager -> Edit)

                          Hi Chelsea

Thank you for your prompt reply. I've followed the format outline on the help guide.
                          20140102 060000;16473;16476;16444;16446;484
The above is the first line of the data for YM (continuous contract)
                          The file name is: YM.Last
The file type is text document
I can see my data when I go to edit on historical data manager. However, the futures is called "YM" only instead of "YM##-##"

                            Hello Ryufutures,

You will need to follow the format shown in the help guide.

For example import YM 09-17 the filename would be

                            YM 09-17.Last.txt

The expiry must be included with a future.

Below is a link to the help guide on importing historical data. Please see the section 'Understanding import file and data formats' which includes an example of a file name for the ES which includes the expiry.
