Default Time and non-time bar series dominance on chart

In v7, if you install two price series on a chart where one is time based and one is non-time based can you choose which is the dominant series for display purposes?

For example I would like to display a 8 tick range bar and a 5 minute bar (separate panels) but the 8 tick range bars must be equally spaced. Obviously, if this is the case the 5 minute bars will not be equally spaced and may overlap.

My reason is that I have a "master" range bar chart and would like to see some indicators from a minute based price series displayed underneath it. It's easy enough to make the minute based price series transparent.

I have tried the above but it always reverts to the time based bar being dominant.

V7 would be really limiting if it can't be done either way.

Thanks.

Hello rtrader,

Thank you for your post.

Unfortunately there is not an option to have the bars evenly spaced when using a multi series chart with different time intervals and maintain a consistent time line. With this being said each inch will represent an exact equal amount of time. The distance between bars may vary depending on how long it takes to build the bar and there is not a dominant series.

Please let me know if I may be of further assistance.

Default Difference in combined time and non-time based charts

Thanks Christopher.

Attached 2 charts:

1) Ninja v7 with 6 tick range bar in top panel and 1 minute chart in bottom panel. The range bars are *not* equally spaced.

2) Another package with 6 tick range bar in top panel and 10 minute chart in bottom panel. The range bars *are* equally spaced and the time chart accomodates the range bars by spacing them out or overlapping them.

Isn't is possible to do something like the second chart? In Ninja having the range bars with varying gaps or even overlapping in some cases isn't at all useable - IMHO.

I am keen to use Ninja charting a lot more or even migrate over completely if it is possible.

Hi rtrader,

Unfortunately, this would not be possible in a multi-series chart as it is not possible to disable equidistant bar spacing in multi-series charts.

I will forward your feedback on this to my development team for further consideration as an addition in future releases.

I also think what rtrader suggested would be ideal as shown in his second image. This feature enhancement has my support - useful for those who like to mix non-time and time based charts.

Default equidistant charting

I would also benefit from being able to set the dominate data series for equidistant spacing.

Default My suggestion as well...

Yes, this is exactly what I want to see as well.
The ability to lock equidistant bar spacing to a given data series.
All other data series points are position relative to the dominant one.

I am chiming in my two cents on this as it is absolutely ESSENTIAL that the user be able to space the x-axis equidistantly by the primary bar series. If a 2nd bar series is added that is not an even multiple of the first, then the 2nd bar series should be non-equidistant but by no means should that distort the first series!!!

The pic attached is a good example -- both series are volume based & the x-axis NEEDS to be based on the primary series. It is bad enough that you screw up the plot if the indicator embeds the 2nd series to avoid a skewed axis, but now the user is left with no option that works correctly (i.e., smoothly).

This design flaw needs to fixed and soon.
