In this post I'll describe how to quickly setup the FTSE 100 stock list in NT7.
It is a pity that there is no easy "just import" and share these list stock list with all the mappings to the different brokers like Yahoo, Google Interactive Brokers etc yet. I have already request the NT-team to implement a full import/export of the Instrument Manager, however I hope they do. Please add you're support on this threat Here is you like this idea too. How to create the FTSE 100 in Ninjatrader with Yahoo data source I presume you already created a Yahoo as data source if not, look around how to do this. Here is how you import all the FTSE 100 tickers at ounce: First open the Yahoo Page with the FTSE index on: FTSE Index Components Scroll down and download the Spreadsheet or click here Open the spreadsheet and remove all column leave only the ticker column. Save the list into a cvs text file. Now start NT7 and go to: File->Utilities->Import Stock Symbols Change Traded on to Liffe Change the currency into pounds Click the button <New> and Type the Name FTSE 100 You can change the session template but not necessary needed Remove the Separator chars And press the load button. Select your file you just saved from the spread sheet ( set file type to any if you cant see it ) After clicking ok you should see the full FTSE 100 list. Now look for the BT-A.L symbol. It will give an error because Ninja doesn't allow "-" in ticker symbols. And change it into BTA.L We'll come back to this later so that Yahoo will understand this. Press Ok. The symbols will be imported. Click ok to finish. Now we need to adjust the BT-A.L stock so Yahoo understands us on this stock. Go to the Tools->Instrument Manager and search for your BTA.L stock Press edit, and go to the Misc tab and scroll down to the Yahoo field and change the BTA.L into BT-A.L Press Ok Now some serious testing and easy usage: Connect NT with the Yahoo data source: File->Connect-> your Yahoo connect name Now go to: File->New->Market Analyzer Right Mouse click in one of the fields of the market analyzer. Select Add Instrument List-> FTSE 100 The full FTSE 100 list will appear in the Market Analyzer. Open a chart File->New->Chart Scroll down to out FTSE 100 list and select any stock you like and press New Change in the right column under the Period section the Type to day And press Ok You're first UK chart is now on. Now go to the top right corner of the chart where the close window X is and look a bit to the left there is an L. Click on this L and select the first color there. Now go to your Market Analyzer and pick the same color there too also on the right corner. We have now connected the two windows together for easy stock browsing. Click in the market analyzer on the first stock and the chart should update and show that ticker. Use enter to quickly run through the list. Good Luck! and safe trading! Wessel

I did try this with ^OMXS30 but get an error saying that all the symbols are either invalid or your import file is not formatted correctly? What is that about?
I use the settings: Traded on: Omx Currency: SwedishKrona Session template: Default 24/7 Separator chars: blank |

Thanks to Wessel, I could successfully add some FTSE100 stocks just on trial basis, as I do not trade FTSE stocks.
I understand this like: - If NO chars are presented in this box, line feed ONLY is the instrument separator. - If some chars are present in this box, they ONLY will be the instrument separators and NOT the line feed. Are both these statements correct? Quote:

Find that list on Yahoo and export it into an excel sheet and remove all columns and only leave the ticker column. Basically that is what we did for the other indexes

thx for an excellent instruction, wessel.
I tried applying it to the swedish OMXS30 and got all the components imported but then i got stuck on "Now we need to adjust the BT-A.L stock so Yahoo understands us on this stock. Go to the Tools->Instrument Manager and search for your BTA.L stock Press edit, and go to the Misc tab and scroll down to the Yahoo field and change the BTA.L into BT-A.L Press Ok" Since OMX has a lot of these "-A" and "-B" in need to get this sorted. What exactly am i supposed to change? When i go into the misc tab theres nothing i can edit in the yahoo field except comissons. Sry if irevived a deadthread but i cant fins any newer on this topic. |

Hi chux33,
Great that you've tried it on OMXS30. And np you revived this thread it underlines my request that the Instrument Manager needs to get more advanced in import and export. Well when I wrote this HowTo it was not possible to import stock lists in NT that contained these '-'. It simply refused them. If you did not get any error messages during your import of the stock list than you're probably fine. Just try a couple of them it might be that the programmers of NT fixed it. If it still complains drop the support an email to fix it ;-) that European stocks do contain - in their names. Now the work around is to remove the - and import your stock list. The problem is now Yahoo won't recognize them any more since the correct name is with a -. That is why you need to manually correct the names in the Misc tab where all the mappings are to the different brokers and data feed providers. And after you succeed, perhaps you can create a new threat just like I did for the UK and attached your OMXS30 List in it. And a link to this post or write your own HowTo for others.. I think it would be awsome if we can grab all the stocks from europe also in NT by the work of fellow traders. Wessel |

Hi RaynM,
Sure you're welcome, I'm trying to improve the perceived value of trading equities with NT to a higher level. Once a ticker list is imported virtually all world wide stocks can be charted as long as it is supported by one of the data providers of NT ( where Yahoo has world wide coverage for EOD ) I think it has such a value also for stock trading in and also outside the US. And please please please enhance the Instrument manager in such a way that also the different mappings can be exported & imported for instruments. That would help tremendous exchanging foreigner exchange ticker lists where every body could add their own mappings for broker/data feed mappings for other exchanges than the US Thanks for you interest. Wessel
