US Private Sector added 250K jobs in December beating estimates of 190K. The strong ending to the year marked the largest payroll increase in nine months.
A busy holiday shopping season pushed retailers and delivery services to hire more seasonal works than expected. December’s healthy showing put 2017’s average number of payroll additions per month at 212K.
December payroll predictions tend to be difficult due to seasonal hiring’s and year end payroll reconciliation procedures as some organizations wait until the end of the year to remove workers from payroll reports.
The ADP report falls one day before the more comprehensive Department of Labor report. Experts predict that 180K – 189K non-farm payrolls were added in December & unemployment to remain unchanged at 4.1%.
