The log file is locked by some other software. Do you have a virus scanner or other SW running which may access the log file while NT tries to open it for writing (this is a write and not read problem)?

This is a 100% clean install of Windows server 2012 R2 with NT7 and NT8 on it only
      12 cpu I7 - just so i can test NT8 - keen hey?

      so Windows Server AV nope....

to report an error - maybe i read the log file in notepad - but would that lock it?
surely not... but... u can tell me

... this popup occured - without any other programs i could see locking or using the file

NT8 continued without crashing after the warning - nicely handled

im assuming you got a locked thread safe singleton logging class or you are using the built in logging patterns from microsoft.. or somethinh so the write error cannot occur from NT8 in theory as the file write access is thread safe etc

what then... if 2 instances of NT8 started and one did not release... not or something along those lines... as i did do a restart at some point and killed off 1 instance etc...

yes, you should not edit log files

also: you can't run 2 instances of NT at a time.

Notepad does not lock the file - i am not editing i am reading it to report bugs to you as you bug reporting tool in Nt8 has a bug and does not send in the logs

i know you cannot run 2 instances - but you can try... and 1 will say cannot...etc
the question is did one open and lock the log... ie maybe one was killed off....

Thanks for clarification. Please let us know as you could reproduce the scenario without having NT log files opened in any editor.
