    Trading Hours Editor EOD error

I am trying to make my own Trading Hours file using the Tools - Trading Hours editor from the Control Panel.

The problem I am having concerns the in-line error checking for EOD.

When I enter the following two lines and save the resulting file it works fine

    Sunday 5:00PM Monday 8:30AM
    Monday 8:30AM Monday 3:15PM EOD x

When I then right-click on each line (one at a time) and click Add Monday thru Friday the problem occurs. The problem is that the system throws and exception with an error message that I accept as being true:

You cannot choose a close time that overlaps with the next
    X
trading date. Please choose an earlier close time.

I then go to the last entry ( Friday thru Saturday line ) and delete it.

I then have the file that I want.
When I go to save the file, the same error message occurs.
The resullting edited file is what I want, but the error persists.
Endlessly playing with the EOD check-boxes gets to be very irritating.
Is there any way to make the TradingHours editor more user friendly?

    Any Ideas

It seems to me like, the implementation of the EOD function has made the TradingTime Session a huge problem to work. It is not a problem when I create a one session a day TradingHours file, but creating multi-session days get to be real irritating with the present Bata software implimentation.

    Hi seefisch,

Can you give me the specifics of the trading hours template you're attempting to set up? I'd like to plug it in on my end to find what the issue may be.

    Thanks!

Trading Hours real time error checking

Sure, we'll start with a very common and simple example.

      Try the following:

      Enter the Trading Hours editor.

add a new Template named Temp

set the Time zone to Central Time (US & Canada)
Note: I don't think Time Zone has anything to do with it.

Enter the following three lines, without checking any EOD boxes

      Monday 0700AM Monday 0830AM
      Monday 0830AM Monday 0300PM
      Monday 0300PM Monday 0700PM

      Hit the apply.

      Error message that appears:
You cannot choose a close time that overlaps with the next trading date.
Please choose an earlier close time.
      Error message doesn't make sence.

Next put a check box in the EOD of the second line (0700AM 0830AM) box

This is where the average trader would want the Break at EOD to occur.
      Try Applying that.
      New error message:

Add a check mark in the Third line 0300PM 0700PM. <-- not what I really wanted!
      Try applying that.
      New error message.

Maybe right click each line and Add Monday tru Friday to each of the three lines.
Now you have a real mess.

Remember that what the user really wanted was:
      Three session per day
EOD on the main 0830AM 0300PM

This is a very simple example of the US Equities hours.

It gets much more complicated when I write a file for US Index sessions.

Hence my assertion that EOD has made TradingHours a huge mess. I get that many users (especially non-time bases charters) wanted Break on EOD and I know that it isn't polite to critizse without having suggestions. But the way I see it, the present setup is unfriendly to the user.

        Hi seefisch,

I see what you mean. There's an existing feature request, SFT-648, which would alleviate the headache regarding EOD settings on Trading Hours in your situation. That feature request would essentially just allow any session to be marked as EOD, not just the last session of the day. I spoke with development and they added your vote in to the tracker on that feature request.
