    Which approach for MTF indicators

In trying to test out different approaches of applying indicators to several time frames on 1 chart i tried the following in the current beta 8 :

    1. Adding a Data series to the chart eg base series is 5m and i added 15m as a secondary.
    2. Applied a custom indicator to the 15m series to appear in indicator panel below.

Problems : the drawing was incomplete for this 15M series and stopped short and was missing segments for up to the current day (ie about 1 day missing)

Random vertical lines appeared on the chart at different times - some days had 2 3 4 - this remained even after removing the 15M data series.

Second approach - in the indicator i uses AddDataSeries for the 15M chart and referenced the Highs[1][0] Closes[1][0] etc for this time frame

    1. the indicator correctly drew the lines (stochastic based) for all bars
    2. the lines obviously arent smoothed as they were in the first approach but this is to be expected.

    3. the random lines remained - this could be issue?

The question is which approach is recommended. Obviously using the 1st approach we have potential bar equidistant issues even when set to line on close and transparent. But it seems there may be a bug/issue with indicators running of the secondary series - something which i used in NT7 with no problem (other than equidistant issues depending on the scaling and difference in timeframes being mixed ie minute or minute and tick)

Any input on this appreciated and perhaps some of this should be raised in the bug report section of beta 8 IF both approaches should be viable and are options depending on the programmer and intent of the indicator/strategy.

    thanks

    Hello soulfx,

    Thank you for writing in.

I wasn't able to replicate this behavior while testing on the default SMA indicator. Have you been seeing this behavior only on custom indicators or default indicators as well?

So that I may test on my end, can you please provide the indicator script that is demonstrating this behavior? If you would prefer not to send the entire script, can you please provide a sample that can demonstrate this behavior occurring on your end?
