    8.0.0.10 Heikin Ashi close calculation

    Hello,

    1. It seems NT8 uses Close[0] for Heikin Ashi close. Is this correct?
    NT7 HA indicator uses (Open[0] + High[0] + Low[0] + Close[0]) * 0.25.

    2. Is there any reason you named Heikin Ashi as Heiken Ashi?

    Thanks,
    Takeo

    Hello tradertakeo,

    Thanks for your post.

The HA close is defined as:
    haClose = bars.Instrument.MasterInstrument.RoundToTickSize(( open + high + low + close) / 4.0);

You can see this when you open the HeikenAshiBarsType in the NS editor.

Regarding the name, it appears to have been used as Heiken Ashi in many places outside of NinjaTrader and consistently in NinjaTrader. Both spellings appear to be accepted throughout the trading community.

Thank you, Paul. I've never looked in the BarsTypes folder.

        Paul,

Liking the use of Heiken-Ashi in Ninja8. Any chance they are going to add the wicks?

          Hello Dolfan,

          Thanks for your post.

          I do not understand.

Can you clarify with a chart that shows the issue and/or the steps to demonstrate the issue?

Is this a case of a black wick on a black background (or white on white)?

Here is a picture of my chart with 30 second Heiken-Ashi bars and display settings opened for your reference.

Here is a pic of a video on Investopedia whereas the bars have a wick in the direction of the trend and no wick in the wake left behind. Seems to indicate strength of trend.

              Hello Dolfan,

Thanks for your post and pictures.

In this case you need only change the chart style from the Open-Close type to Candlestick to see the wicks. You can change the chart style in the dataseries window or directly with the chart icon next to the (30 second) period selector.

I tried that but it gave me wicks on both ends. Perhaps I need to play with the time settings? I'll look at doing that later. Thanks!

                Best regards,

                  Hello Dolfan,

                  Thanks for your post.

The picture your post references shows candlesticks with wicks on both sides on some candles which you can achieve by selecting the candle stick chart style with the Heiken-ashi bar type.
