Unhandled Exception - unable to start NT8

Hi,

I was happily working on a Strategy and changed a variable location. All of a sudden the following message appeared:

Unhandled exception: Value cannot be null. Parameter name: path

This was repeated a couple of times, followed by a hard crash of the "NinjaTrader stopped working.." variety.

I restarted NT8 and the same thing happened.

Rebooted PC - same thing.

I tried removing the offending strategy .CS file from the CUSTOM directory - same thing.

Tried removing the custom AddOn too - same thing.

Don't know what else to try. Anyone got an idea how to restart NT without it crashing???

Hello ours_solaire,

To start NinjaTrader in safe mode hold the Ctrl key as you click the NinjaTrader Icon.

If the crash still occurs, likely the error is in OnStateChange or in the constructor. You would probably need to remove the files manually while NinjaTrader is closed.

Tried removing the files to no avail...

I can start in safe mode. I have recompiled, having removed the offending files, but I get the same crash when I restart normally!

Rename your

"C:\Users\username\Documents\NinjaTrader 8"

to something else

"C:\Users\94tagt\Documents\NinjaTrader 8 OLD"

and start fresh. Copy in stuff that you need?

There are probably easier ways that I don't know about.

OK I have reinstalled NT8. No more crashes.

I was trying to add a static method using the MySharedMethods AddOn to allow multiple processes to write to a single file. I inadvertently compiled the strategy with an error in the file path, then all hell broke loose, so beware when playing with System.IO.

I had another problem that I could not solve: Strategies were not printing to the Output Window. This problem has now gone away. I suspect that I imported some outdated Indicator that corrupted something somewhere, and has now been removed.
