Alert on bar close?
Is it possible to set an alert to only evaluate its conditions on bar close instead of on every tick?Tags: None

According to help guide, all alerts are handled in real-time.

... In contrast, a Chart does display historical bar data, (sic) therefore a chart alert would be able to use historical bar data to be considering in a specific alert condition used for indicators and other data series.

Yes - but the workaround is simple. Since the alert evaluates on each tick, just set your conditions on the previous bar, and they will evaluate once on the first tick of the current bar.

Yeah I saw that and I think it's more towards what kind of information is available to you for alerts, but I've never seen an historical alert. Would defeat the purpose of them.
But to the question at hand, I think this is based on what you setting an alert condition to.
Example, if you set it to an indicator on a chart, your alert is still being evaluated on each tick. However, if the indicator is set to only calculate OnBarClose then you wouldn't get an alert until a bar closed and the indicator could update its values, thus if the new values met the alert conditions, an alert gets generated.

Hello TheBarChartist,
Thank you for your post.
You would use Calculate to determine in code if the calculation would be done on each tick, price movement, or bar close: http://ninjatrader.com/support/helpG.../calculate.htm
That would be the alerts in an indicator.
Alerts through the Market Analyzer would not have an option to set the Calculate as the Market Analyzer is intended to be updated per tick.
