    alerts freeze NT

If I have too many alerts(with audio) in a row the entire platform freezes. To be honest, even a single alert seems to cause freezing for the duration of the audio playing. Eg "Order Pending", "Target hit". But the biggest problem is when my custom indicators start firing off alerts(and I have several that can do that at the same time or back to back). I vaguely remember reading something about this written by customer support but can't seem to find it.

Assuming audio playing is a problem thru Alert calls, what if I write custom code to play alerts in a different thread or is any audio playing originating from ninja a problem???

    any help appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Peter

    Peter,

Audio playing is generally not a problem. What kind of machine are you running NT on?

      Vista
      Quad Core 2.4 Ghz
      3 GB memory

It's weird, the freezing only seems to occur during the audio portion of alerts.

Have you given a reinstall a try?

If you search you will find much discussion about alerts impacting the platform. This is not new to anybody here.

            eDanny,

Everything is taken on a case by case basis so all bases need to be covered first.

              eDanny,

Can you point me to some of those discussions? I remember reading somewhere that while an audio alert is playing that everything else becomes single threaded or something to that effect. any help appreciated. I'm considering turning off my custom audio alerts or at least attempting a custom solution. It's pretty clear that there's an issue here.

              Thanks,
              Peter

                  Josh,

The following post has something interesting in it:

"NT would be locked up (=non responsive) if you played sound files synchronously. That's why NinjaScript plays it asynchronously."

Now are there ANY performance/locking issues with the way that Alert plays audio files?

                    pkinoc,

Development has confirmed sounds will never be played synchronously by NT.

That's fine but what are the known performance issues that eDanny referred to? You didn't disagree with him when he said that so I assume there's got to be something?

                        pkinoc,

No known issues from just using Alerts. Please try reinstalling as suggested earlier.

Hi my NT freezes when the splash screen loads.
Attached is the system I am running.
Is my machine not capable of running NT?

I mean.. when I first ran NT, everything was ok..
Then slowly.. like my other machines.. it became a problem.

I have even tried resetting, reparing the DB to no avail.
I have tried cleaning the harddisk, removing comodo antivirus as I read on some forums that this could use up alot of CPU system Idle... Still did not work.

                          Please help.
I cannot afford this to happen during LIVE trading.

                          thanks a million

                            mike12nv,

We would appreciate it if you created a new thread. Thank you.

When you say freezes, is there any error messages? Please try deleting your workspaces. Go to Documents\NinjaTrader 6.5\workspaces and remove the files in that directory then restart NT.
