Visual Studio - To buy or not to buy?

I'm looking at purchasing Visual Studio (VS) to improve the efficiency of producing functioning code in NT6.5 & NT7.

In short, of the many out there who currently use VS to aid in their programming efforts, is it worth it? What are the benefits, how can it be used to the greatest effect? What version (year) should be purchased?

Any guidance would be appreciated.

To my understanding NT does not support VS Express.

Regardless, the benefits, the pros and cons, of using VS is what I'm questioning.

VisualStudio is a great tool, but AFAIK you can't use it to develop ninja indicators/strategies. You can use it for debug only.
While you can't officially "attach to process" with VS Express edition there is a workaround that I have been using successfully in the past:

For a single developer (not in a team), express edition should be enough.
