    Exit without an Entrance?

    Hi all,

I currently have a portfolio that I hold overnight but want to trade during the day. It seems as if the only way that I can exit a position is to enter one first. But at the beginning of the day, I have nothing to enter into because I'm already *in* a position.

Any ideas on what I could do here would be helpful - thanks!

    Hello Saltboy,

    Thank you for your post.

What it seems like you want to do is have a NinjaScript automated strategy manage a position for exit only.

It's true that an exit will require an entry so for this to work you would need a strategy position that matches the account position.

There's no way to explicitly tell the strategy prior to running what your position is, so the strategy position would have to match based on prior entry signals.

More info on strategy position versus account position here.

So, could I start the strategy *after the session opens* with an entry? And if that entry doesn't execute since I started after the session, I could still do an exit.

      Do I have that Right?

        Hello Saltboy,

        Yes, this is pretty close.

The idea is that the strategy would be in a position prior to starting it that matches your account position.

The tricky part is that you can't explicitly state this. It's just based off the signal rules you have developed.

So, basically, I do need to be careful how/when I start the strategy so that things don't get out of sync. That makes sense - thanks!
