Strategy deployed on PCs having different timezones

    Hi there,

I want my strategy to be deployable across PCs in different timezones.

I understand that Time[] returns the bar time in the local timezone, and I know how to translate that to any other timezone.

I also understand that Ninja displays charts in the local timezone.

For testing purpose, I want to switch my Ninja from EST to CST (for example). But despite changing my local timezone & erasing the db cache folders, there doesn't seem to be any change on bar time as displayed on the chart & reported through backtesting.

    What's missing ?

    Thanks
    Dominique

Was the program restarted when you changed time zone?

I just tested this and works as you described, but it does require that NinjaTrader is restarted before the data is reloaded.

yes, I stop Ninja, change the timezone & erase the cache, then restart Ninja, but no change in bar-times on chart nor as reported through backtesting.

Note that I am working off the same historical data in the database (I didn't re-import it after changing timezone).

        Dom,

You will need to reload the data either from the chart or from the historical data manager for the updates to take place.

Delete the cache will not change the time stamps alone and is not needed, but you do need to reload the data.

OK, now I understand what's going on.

If not already the case, can you open a feature request to make the historical database timezone-independant. I am actually very surprised of this, given that the import documentation states all exports are done with UTC timestamps, which had made me believe this was its native format.

I hope you guys realize it is practically impossible for us to reload 10-years of tick-data for all markets / all timezones.

Sure, I'll be happy to send this in. I believe one exists, but we can count this in as a vote for this feature. Once we have a tracking ID, we will let you know.

Thanks for your feedback as always, Dom
