Visual C# Express Edition 2008 vs. NinjaScript editor

I'm about to start learning C# so I can better create my own strategies and indicators, and I'm wondering if it would be best to learn with Visual C# Express Edition or the built in NinjaScript editor?

I'm leaning towards Visual C# as most of the learning materials are written with that environment in mind, but are there any unique advantages of using the NinjaScript editor I should be aware of?

    thanks

For one, the NinjaScript Editor is inline with NinjaTrader. This removes the step of needing to setup a Visual Studio which can be more complicated than simple for the unfamiliar.

I recommend using the NinjaScript Editor because of the ease of indicator/strategy creation. No need to worry about other things, just worry about the programming logic you want in your indicator/strategy. Easy and efficient.

      That makes sense.

The book I'm learning from uses VC# express so once I get the overall basics it should help a lot with the NS editor.

I'm curious if I can create add-ons in Visual C# to add functionality to NinjaTrader?

For example if I wanted to create a web scraper for forex trading to grab upcoming events from the economic calendar and have an indicator/strategy to alert me so I can either take a position or exit one depending on my risk tolerance etc..

Is something like this possible? Or are code-protected indicators/strategies the basic extent of the third-party development potential?

It is possible, but unfortunately it is beyond what we can offer support for here. Thank you for understanding.

I completely understand. Rest assured though, one day I will create the world's best third party add-on....
