SendMail() Problem

Hi,

I am having a problem setting up the Mail capability of NT.

Under Options -> Misc i set the SMTP server, port, user, and password.
I then try to send a test email to one of my email addresses and get the following error.

"Failed to send mail: 533.5.7.1 AUTH command is not enabled"

any ideas?

Guess, I'm on a loss. I'm not a SMTP expert, but I would think, that probably your SMTP does not understand the AUTH command, meaning it probably does not have SMTP (standard) authentication ?!?

Hi.

I have been looking into this a little more thoroughly and have an idea.

I believe my email server (optimum online in NY) requires SMTP authentication.

It seems that when using the SendMail() function as a developer, you have options, to enable AUTH commands and such via a system struct. I believe that NTs version of this function may not have AUTH command enabled.

Could you please check with the developers to see if this is true. If not, maybe add an option to enable it in future versions of NT.

SendMail() honors the authentication settings applied in Tools->Options->Mis. If works for lots of users.

Hi moon_rainz,

The first thing to check would be the SMTP server settings in the Tools->Option->Misc tab. Ensure they match your SMTP server. Please take note that some ISP providers also require you to use their SMTP server as opposed to one associated with a POP3 mail you may have.

I discovered that I can send a test mail successfully when I leave the SMTP Server blank under the Tools->Option->Misc tab.

Hey guys.

I'm still having the same problem that I described above.

When I try what moon_rainz did to resolve the issue I get a response that says
"Failed to send mail: Error connecting to server. 81.169.163.72"
I am able to sucessfully ping the address from the command prompt.

any more ideas?
