Use of daily indicators during intra-day

    Hi

I have a simple indicator in which the current daily volume is divided by the n period moving average of the daily volume. It is imperative that this indicator be updated during the intra-day trading periods. This indicator by default has the 'Calculate On Bar Close' flag set to false. However when it is inserted into a Market Analyzer column, the values for this indicator are incorrect. I suspect the daily volume that is used in OnBarUpdate to calculate the indicator is not updated continuosly through out the trading day.

I notice a similar behavior when the indicator is plotted on a daily chart before the market closing hours.

If my suspicion is correct, how can I remedy this situation?

    Thanks in advance.

      Hi Dierk

This is for E-Signal and it is for equities such as VDSI, ELOS, FTEk, etc.

On a related note, I take it that a buy or sell scan can't be created from the Market Analyzer list. Correct?

      Thanks again for the reply.

        - I submitted a support request to eSignal and will keep you posted.
        - Market analyzer columns are not reflective of bid/ask. You may consider using an indicator in a market analyzer colum which is reflective of bid/ask like "BuySellVolume".

          Thanks again, Dierk.

In regards to MA, I was wondering if perhaps in the future releases of NT one could use the MA grid as a scan tool for autmoated trading.

          Regards

Please elaborate on your request. Why can't you use it now for scanning?

            Thanks

              Hi Dierk

That would be great but I'm not sure how to do it.

For example, I have the following MA columns:

Indicator (Volume/MA of Volume) on daily
MA of price on 15 minute
              Stoch on 15 minute

To the best of my knowledge, these columns are only for display. Their respective values can't be referenced in any script for a system or strategy.

Furthermore, again to the best of knowledge, such mixing of different timeframe indicators is not possible in a strategy. If I'm in error, I apologize.

              Regards

Correct, these columns are for display. You can create multi timeframe and instrument strategies.

Next NT6 update will support updating daily volume for futures. It already works fine for stocks. However, it won't work for currencies, since eSignal does not provide this data.

Indicator using both daily and intra-day data

I'd like to create an indicator script that shows an EMA of the primary bars (hourly), and also shows an EMA of daily bars from the same symbol (ER2). The EMA value from the daily bars will be the same throughout the day, but needs to update for each new day.

I've tried applying the discussion on multi-time frame strategies, but appearently some of things needed to do this (like BarsInProgress) are not supported for indicators. Is there an example indicator available that shows how to have an indicator plot both intra-day and daily data?

                    Thanks,
                    Darryl

No, since indicators only run on one data series.

Right. So, would it be possible for you to post an example of using a strategy to plot both 60 minute (primary) and daily (secondary) moving averages on the same chart? I've run into a few cases where intra-day trading is based on daily bar indicators, and plotting the daily bar indicators for the intra-day strategy would be very helpful.

                        Thanks,
                        Darryl

It is not possible to plot MA's of different series on a chart.

With version 6.5 out, is it still not possible to plot higher time frame indicators on lower time frame charts?
If they cannot be plotted, can the values be shown (i.e., "X=30") somewhere in the small time frame chart?

This is not possible. This is planned for NT7 later this year.
