Need the MATH that calculates an EMA

    Greetings,
I would like to know what MATH calculations are used for an EMA. I use an EMA(Close, 3)[0] as a trigger when this trigger crosses another line. The indicator I would like to write would answer the question “if this bar closed now, what would my EMA value be on the open of the new bar.”
I would like to do the math within the indicator the old-fashioned way and substitute last trade for Close.
    Thanks for your help,
    Julie

    Hello Julie,

You can view the code for EMA by clicking tools > Edit NinjaScript > Double click EMA.

    Input[0] * (2.0 / (1 + Period)) + (1 - (2.0 / (1 + Period))) * Value[1]

Input is the series you're basing the moving average on (close). Value[1] is the EMA's previous value.
