    Can i copy an indicator?

I think I may have once used a 'copy indicator' capability somewhere and then was directed to change all old indicator name references to the new name.
is it possible to do such a thing [ie] to have NT copy an indicator?

so I have created a new indicator, copy/pasted the old code and then changed all old indicator references with the new name. when I did a utility backup I got a message ‘’NinjaTrader indicator HeikenAshi could not be serialized."

Is the backup I just did valid? what does the message mean?

    Hi Joe,

You can copy an indicator simply by right clicking on the code and select "Save As" and the compile the next copy it generates. This will handle the naming behind the scenes for you.

Was the HikenAshi related to the indicator your changed? Specific to that error, serializing is a programming concept.

Please see our Forum Post which contains information on how to properly Serialize an indicator:

Hi, I was trying to make a copy of an indicator to make some changes to it. It didn't work as I can't code. Now I can't delete the copy of the original as I get a message saying there is no cs file to delete and it is referenced by other Ninjascript. The copy has no code, i deleted it, but still can't delete it from Indicator Editor. How can I delete the copy? Thanks

        Hello syxforex,
        Thank you for your post.

You can remove the NinjaScript files manually if you wish.
        • First shut down NinjaTrader and then go to the following directory on your PC: My Documents\NinjaTrader 7\bin\Custom\Indicator
        • From here you can delete the .CS files that you do not wish to have.
        • Once complete, restart NinjaTrader and then go to Tools > Edit NinjaScript > Indicator > select and indicator > OK > and then press F5 to compile all NinjaScript files once the NinjaScript Editor window opens.

Please let me know if you receive any errors after compiling.
