Cannot access NinjaScript Editor from Tools menu

I have attempted to create an indicator by following instructions in the Help Indicator tutorial as given:
" 1. Within the NinjaTrader Control Center window select the Tools-->New NinjaScript-->Indicator..."

but the subsection "New NinjaScript" in the Tools section of the Control Center Window menu does not
appear as shown in the Tutorial .
How can I access this indicator creating function?
I am using the free version but his has not been a problem in the past.

Your license key is a Direct Edition License Key which does not have access to edit NinjaScript or create NinjaScript. You will need to purchase or lease the software from NinjaTrader or use the Free Simulation Edition License Key to access the Edit NinjaScript and New NinjaScript menu options.

In regards to the above I have a friedn who has similar issue and how could they check if there are erros in their scripts if they do not have this edit ninjascript tool?
