    How to determine time period of a bar

    Hello,

    I need to determine programmatically what time period a particular indicator applied to.
    Is it monthly, weekly, daily, intraday (in this case how many minutes), tick bar, etc.
    Logic I want to implement is different for different kinds of bars.

    Could someone please please help?

    Thank you in advance

    Hello Learning and welcome to the forums.

    To determine the bar type and period you can use the BarsPeriod.

    Here is a link to the help guide that provides the complete definitions. http://www.ninjatrader.com/support/h...barsperiod.htm

    Please let me know if I can be of further assistance.

      Paul,

      Thank you.

      Could you please point me to an explanation, what PeriodType.Volume and PeriodType.Range are? Also, is PeriodType.Id internally an integer? Can I use them in a switch statement?

      Thank you in advance

        Hello Learning

        Thank-you for your questions.

        PeriodType.Volume and PeriodType.Range refer to Volume bars and Range bars. For further clarity, if needed, here are definition links for those types: http://www.ninjatrader.com/support/h...?bar_types.htm

        Here is an example using the BarsPeriod ID and the PeriodType in a switch statement:

        switch (BarsPeriod.Id)
        {
        case PeriodType.Minute:
        Print ("Bar type is Minute");
        break;
        case PeriodType.Day:
        Print ("Bar type is Day");
        break;
        case PeriodType.Volume:
        Print ("Bar type is Volume");
        break;
        }
        Please let me know if I can be of further assistance.
