Need to customize the "Range" indicator

    Hi,

Could someone let me know who I can contact in order to have them customize the "Range" indicator for me. I want it to have a red range indicator bar, or custom color, when the current price candle/bar closed down from the previous and green, or custom color, when it closes up. Currently it is just one color regardless.

So essentially a down close has a red, or custom color, range bar in the indicator and an up close has a green, or custom color.

    See video: http://www.screencast.com/t/t6qXnAlpLOlJ

You can have a look at the Better Volume indicator.

The best futures trading community on the planet: futures trading, market news, trading charts, trading platforms, trading strategies

    It colors the range

    - light blue for strong climax bars (high voluime, wide range)
    - dark blue for weak climax bars (high volume, wide range)
    - yellow for churn bars (high volume, narrow range)
    - magenta for strong climax churn bars
    - violet for weak climax churn bars
    - white for low volume bars
    - green for other upclose bars
    - red for other downclose bars

Essentially what you asked for was just the last two bar types. If need, some of the prior definitions can be eliminated from the code to match your needs.

Elite membership is required for download, but you can also find a BetterVolume indicator on this forum.

I'm confused with this "Range" request.

Why not use NT's Range bar , instead of 3/5 minute bars? That has range by tick size and colors up/down.

Sorry, don't think about this as range bars. It is the "Range" indicator at the bottom of the chart. Don't ask me but NT calls it "Range" as I show it in the video. It is the built in "Range" indicator. It shows the spread of the bar/candle. I can look across the indicator and it shows me a visual representation of the spread of the bars/candles... I can more easily see wide spread bars/candles and narrow spread bars/candles.

        Thanks

Ok, I just looked at it (never used it).

It is showing the range of the bar, not constraining it in anyway.

                Hi Sledge

It was very nice of you to have done this.

This is not an indicator I would use but I was fascinated to see how you would code this.

I could have done this myself but nowhere near as efficiently and I learnt quite a bit. In particular, I'd never seen the 'Reset' method before.

I had not either until I opened up the VolumeUpDown indicator in NT for inspiration!

It has red/green bars and plots, and was just what this hacker needed.

Thanks again, this is working great. One tweak if possible would be to add a color for a level close. I am noticing that the indicator paints the indicator bar green if the current bar closes even with the previous. Would it be possible to add a 3rd color for a level close?

                    Thanks again.

                      Yes, very possible.

Very nice, this is a valuable enhancement! Easier to see true expansion and contraction bars and also, I can see cluster of closes easier.

Thanks again, and thanks for the quick turnaround.
