I am not quite sure about the point of your question. However, a range bar contains a fixed number of ticks in that bar. For example a range chart with a range bar size of 10 has all bars equal to 10 ticks.
A 1000 volume bar chart by definition has each bar equal to a fix volume of 1000. In a way, a volume chart is a range chart of volume instead of ticks, i.e., every bar regardless of price has 1000 volume.
So yes, you can simply use volume as data series to plot a volume range chart (Volume instead of Ticks). But, the volume bars will have different price ranges.
Cheers!
