Just want to update in case others find this thread - NT worked with me through emails and conclusion is that this is still occurring in NT8, and is expected. In other words, changing from NT7 to NT8 will not resolve the issue listed here.

Hi - am using the latest NT8 and it seems this is still overlapping?

Edit: I am using the latest NT8 and have already reset DB.

    Hello jtrading82,

    Thank you for your note.

After further investigation and recreating your chart, I've learned that what you are experiencing is expected when using a time-based indicator over a tick-based interval when using NinjaTrader 7. This issue has been resolved in Ninjatrader 8.

Let me know If I may be of further assistance.

Hi - perhaps I am not communicating my issue clearly. See below pic with the tick panel. As you can see the bars are overlapping based on the time chart. Changing the bar width manually or resizing the x-axis only streteches it, but the bars remain overlapped.

    Hello, jtrading82,

    Thank you for your post.

You can set your bars to a default width for tick charts by following the steps below.

    • From your chart.
    • Right click > Data Series.
    • Under Chart style change the Bar width to your desired width
    • Click Apply
    • Click OK
    • Right click > Templates > Save As Default

This will set all of your charts to a default width.

I have included a link to Chart Templates from the NinjaTrader 7 Help Guide.

Let me know if I may be of further assistance.

Thanks, I should have been more specific. With a tick chart, the bars automatically draw with equal width. When there is a time and tick chart, the bars seem to default to the time chart.

Is there a way for the tick chart to draw bars automatically with non-overlapping width without having to manually adjust the bars?

    Hello jtrading82,

    Thank you for your post.

The x-axis of a chart is always based on time.

To compress or decompress the x- axis:
    1. Left mouse click in the x- axis margin and move the mouse cursor to the left or right.
    2. Alternatively, use the Hot Keys CTRL + Up and CTRL + Down

In order to see smaller or larger time values.

To Change the bar spacing and/or bar width:
    1. To change the spacing between bars
    1. CTRL + Up arrow key decreases bar spacing
    2. CTRL + Down arrow key increases bar spacing

    2. To change the width of bars
    1. ALT + Up arrow key decreases bar width
    2. ALT + Down arrow key increases bar width

I have included a link to Navigating a Chart from the NinjaTrader 7 Help Guide.

Let me know if I may be of further assistance.

Hi Kate - thank you, that is what I am looking for. I do have an issue - my panel 1 (tick chart) seems to have the x-axis based on 5 minute intervals time and is now showing overlapping bars on the tick chart. How can I have the x-axis based on the tick chart so the bars do not overlap?

    Hello jtrading82,

    Thank you for your post.

Yes, you can plot a time indicator on a tick chart.

For example, to add an indicator based off of a 15 minute chart, plotted over a 1000 tick chart, please follow the instructions below:

    * First create a 1000 tick chart as usual
    * Right click within your chart window and select Data Series...
    * Add a second data series, the same instrument as your 1000 tick chart, but set the parameters to be a 15 minute chart
    * You should now see two-paneled chart with 1000 tick on top and 15 minute below
    * Next, right click and select Indicators... Find your indicator in the top left hand corner, and click New to add it.
    * In the parameters to the right, set your Input Series to your 15 minute data series (Close)
    * Set your Panel to 1,and click OK
    * Next, move your pointer to the right of your price axis (y-axis) on the top panel of your chart window, and right click>Maximize.

You now should see a 1000 tick chart, with an indicator plotted over it based off of a 15 minute Data series.

If I may be of further assistance, please let me know.

Plotting time indicator on tick chart

Is there any way (directly supported or workaround) to plot a time indicator on a tick chart?

I.e. I have a tick chart open, and want to plot the 15 minute MA on the same chart (same instrument)
