    Block order fill question

    Hello,

Under the NYSE open session, if a block order is executed and does get filled, does it have a tendency to move the market in the direction the executioner wants?

Example: If a block of 300 contracts is executed on buy side and there are no equivalent sellers on the other side, can it benefit the buyer(s) in this case as they are creating an imbalance?

    Thank you.

    Hello,

    Thanks for your post.

If these are Market orders being submitted, yes, this could push the market one way until it is met with equal resistance from sellers and the market prices balances out there fore.

If these are limit orders, they will only submit at this price, however if there are no eager sellers to break through the "buy wall" then likely market orders being submitted could also push the price upwards.

I've linked to a publicly available link which goes over thsi topic on how markets move:
