Setting up positions for multi-day trading

I'm using NinjaTrader to trade with IB - unfortunately, IB is set to log out every night and there does not seem to be a way around this. (that is, I can set when the logout happens, but can't set the fact that it does log out).

After IB logs out overnight, the next day I can recover those Strategies which are tracking an instrument (in this case, a stock) which I have a true long or short position in. However, if I have set up a strategy to buy or sell at a certain point and I don't already have a long or short position, then I am unable to automatically reconnect. As a result, if I've placed GTC limit orders, I have to close them the next morning, and replace them by setting up my Position Strategies afresh the next day.

I'd like to set up a strategy and let it sit for a period of days, without having to re-set it up on a daily basis. Is there a way that I can do this?

Let me make sure I understand.

You have a pending strategy which contains an entry order that has not been filled. You logon the next day and NT does not recover this strategy?

Yes. The position strategies seemed to be unrecoverable once I reconnected the next morning. (Please see the attached .jpg)

It is unrecoverable because the orders are missing. If the orders are missing, then there is nothing to recover.

          Hi Ray -

OK. Here is a .jpg which should completely detail the issue. The situation is that there is an open GTC order (in this case, it is a breakout situation - buy if LEN goes above X, or sell if LEN goes below Y). The order is not executed by the end of the day, but I want to keep it alive through the next day and monitoried via the agents if and when the execution happens.

IB logs out automatically overnight, and when Ninja reconnects, it cannot see the unfilled order(s) - even though they are visibile through the IB screen.

Please see the attached documentation for screen shots and descriptions.

Thanks for your help on this once again,

          Pete

Do the orders show up in the order panel?

              Hi Ray -

Under this particular circumstance, the order does not show up in the order panel (please see .jpg).

When you connect tomorrow assuming you have open orders, please send me the following file if the order does not show up in NT.

                C:\Program Files\NinjaTrader 4\Data\log.txt

                  Hi Ray -

Rolled back IB to 831 as requested.

Performed the same test as this morning, with the same results - the unfilled order was lost.

Attached a dump of the log (with my account # removed), as requested.

Are you shutting down NT before reconnection?

                      Hi Ray -

OK. I downloaded NT 4.0.33, which, in conjunction with TWS831, seems to handle the problem.

                      Thanks,

                      Pete
