Strategies vs DOM

So today i was running a strat on a chart and i was trading on the DOM

Is there a way to keep these sparate? because everytime i was flat in my DOM my strat was stopped

I prob dont have a setting correct...any ideas?

ok i have read and reread the article...thanks.

So this morning i started a strat on a 30s chart
went to the DOM and placed an order
closed order from DOM using close button
my strat stopped on the 30s chart

Instrument = ES 12-08
Sim 101 account

HELP

Laserdan,

Please try with the SampleMACrossOver strategy. If you are still experiencing this please take note as to the environment it happens in.

For example, did you place your DOM trade before your strategy had a position or after? Was your strategy holding an open position when you closed your DOM trade? Etc. Thanks.

strat position was flat
placed order on DOM
Closed order on DOM with close button
Strt stopped running on Close Order

Sim 101 account

sold short in DOM sim 101
strat still showed 1L
Closed pos it DOM
strat stopped

Hi Laserdan,

What you would need to do is place your DOM order with an ATM strategy. Then instead of left mouse clicking the close button you want to middle mouse click it. That way it will only close your selected ATM strategy's position instead of your overall account position (which would include the NinjaScript strategy).

well i was successful in trading the DOM while a strat was runiing by using you methods, however i have some questions

1. Where is this in the documentaton?
2. why do have to use an atm strat from the DOM?
3. Why use middle mouse button for closing?

Here is the relevant snippet from the Help Guide article I posted above:

It is crucial that when running ATM Strategies created by a NinjaScript strategy that you understand how to properly manually close the ATM Strategy from any of the order entry windows.

• If the order entry window ATM Strategy Selection Mode is NOT in "DisplaySelectedATMStrategyOnly" click on the "CLOSE" button via your middle mouse button (scroll wheel)

Although you may say you are not creating an ATM strategy from a NinjaScript strategy, but the way to work that situation is the same as the one above. Your alternative if you want to use left click is to do this:

If the order entry window ATM Strategy Selection Mode is in "DisplaySelectedATMStrategyOnly" you can click on the "CLOSE" button with your left mouse button to close the selected active ATM strategy

The reason you need to use ATM strategy is so NinjaTrader can "link" them up. Otherwise it can only see the positions from an account level instead of a per strategy level.

If you do not wish to use an ATM strategy what you could try instead is just to manually close your positions via market orders in the opposite direction instead of pressing the Close button.
