    I am new to NT. I use Interactive Brokers.

    In order to run NT, do you have to open IB and have it running in the background.

    Looking for ways to improve IB order execution speed.

    Yes you do need TWS running in the background, please visit the link provided as this usually helps customers with inquiries similar to yours.



    If this doesn't help please let me know what version of TWS you are using in addition to what instrument you're attempting to submit orders on.

      I trade Nymex Crude, CL.

      TOS is ligthning fast on my computer. I use a DELL laptop.

      IB with NT is very slow on the same computer.

      I downloaded the latest version today. I believe it is the Jan 8, 2009 version.

        You will need to use TWS version 887.2, which you can download and install at the link below.


        Make sure your PC meets the minimum requirements listed at the link below.


        Check the performance link posted in post #2 and apply some of the tips and check if it will improve the performance of NinjaTrader.

          Which Version?

          I have installed TWS 890.06 Release 1/8/9 Java 1.6.0_11.

          The StartUP menu searches for the current release every day.

          Are you telling me that I have to shut down the STARTUP menu for TWS updates and go to your website, manually check to see which is the current NT TWS version and use that one.

              Do I uninstall the whole program and start over. I will loose all settings.

              Does it tell you to do this on the website?

                I am not sure if you can install TWS version 887.2 on top of your current version to save your settings. I suggest to contact IB Support regarding this.

                    Hi,


                    In most cases you will experience various errors when using basic functions such as trading and when pulling up charts if you have any other TWS installed besides 887.2.

                      How often do I need to check the NT website for the current version, or is there some way of updating from NT.

                        The IB connection guide on the website will have the supported version of TWS available for download.

                        Note: The change to another version of TWS does not occur very often.

                          Update

                          I uninstalled the new version and installed 872.

                          I check the log for any errors.


                          It says "Automated Trading Disabled".

                          Is that a problem. Did not say it was an error.

                              Just a note to anyone reverting back to 887 from the current version. You need to go to the IB Help desk and make sure you follow their procedures. I didn't and it caused some problems.
