    CPU Usage

Does CPU usage increase as more instruments are added to ones instrument list in the Instrument Manager ? I am looking for ways to cut CPU usage.

    Thanks....

    Hello:

Adding more instruments to the Instrument list will not affect cpu usage.

There may be ways to optimize NT however, I require some additional information:

What indicators are you running on your charts?
    How many SuperDOMs?
    Any Time and Sales windows?
    Who is your broker?

What other applications are you running on your PC?

    Thanks,

    Ryan

      Hi Ryan..

I have just one ER2 8 tick chart in NT 5.1.1000.5 with a one period moving average on it. Just one SuperDOM, and no time and sales window. My broker is King Commodities & I have the Zen-Fire feed.

I also run Tradestation live with just a few workspaces. My CPU seems somewhat higher than normal lately...it could be due to a new version of TradeStation perhaps...and then again there has been a lot of tick action in the ER2 lately...

But any possible suggestions would be appreciated...

      Thanks ! ...

        Lets try the following -

Edit each indicator on each chart and change the "Calculate on bar close" property to "True".

Try the following and run this set up tomorrow and let me know if you see a performance increase.

        Thank you,

        Ryan

          Alfred,

Since you are not loading NT the CPU increase is very likely TS, you can verify this just by running TS by itself.

            Hi Ray...Bryan...

Thanks for the calculate bar on close suggestion...will do.

My machines are not that powerful an an apparent CPU increaseseems noticeable since last year....perhaps it is due to increased volatility.

Guess I just need some more horsepower.

            Thanks....Alfred

                CPU Question

                Hi...

My CPU use seems sporadically pretty high today...I have 1 NT workspace open...6 charts ...2 data streams (seconds and tick)...no indicators...went through your performance tips...nothing else running on the computer...1500 RAM with a 2.9 or so chip...

                Any suggestions....??
                Thanks...

                  Hello Alfred,

Could you please check if you are running workspaces in the background (these will request data & resources as well) and close them. Please go to File-->Workspaces and close all workspaces listed below "Save Workspace As" except the Default workspace. Select the workspace and go to File-->Workspaces-->Close Workspace.

Are you running any other applications at the same time?

                    Hi Jason...

                    Thanks for the reply...
I have just the default workspace running described below
                    and no other apps.

Playing with this though this morning since posting and watching the little Task Manager window in the Task Bar....I do continually place a number of graphic objects on 2 or 3 charts throughout the day and then often move some of them (maybe 60%) to another location on the chart...also often copy and paste some simple graphic objects....when I do this the CPU spikes up quite a bit...I am sure that is the reason for a fair number of the CPU spikes I have been seeing...just had not paid attention to this before...

Perhaps I need a better graphics card with more card memory ??...

                    Thanks...

                      Hello Alfred,

I suggest to check the following link, which will provide helpful tips to improve the performance of NinjaTrader.

Note, market volatility plays a role as well. The same NinjaTrader setup will request much more resources during high volatility, which increases the chance of experiencing freeze ups.
