    Input string was not in a correct format

    I keep getting this error message if I try to get data from yahoo or try to import historical data from txt files. (But in status bar , it says connected)

    I believe the attached files are in correct format. (it is from other post and corrected by one of NT staff. It should be imported in normal NT system)

    I get the error message "Input string was not in a correct format" even with this file.

    Hello,

    Thank you for your post.

    I just tried with your link and the import was successful.

    1.) Make sure you are on the latest version of NinjaTrader 6.5.1000.8. You can check under Help --> About.

    2.) Try repairing your database as well: Tools --> Options --> Misc --> Repair DB.

    -Try saving the notepad file to your desktop as "CAC40 02-09"
    -Restart NinjaTrader and try the import again.

      Thanks.

      I have done as you advice but still does not work.

      I was simply evaluted your system for possible alternative on tradestation. But I can't get any further.

      What does "Input string was not in a correct format" means?
      It seems NT is keep failing to read Txt files.

          What country/language etc. settings do you have applied on your machine?

          Also: what NT release are you on?

            Hi NinjaTrader_Dierk

            Thanks for your reply.

            I use Most latest version of NT (6.5. 1000.8) + I use 32 bit Window XP.

            XP is English verison but I have installed East Asian Language pack on my XP.

            I was using One of the Asian Language just before installation of NT but Now I have changed default language to English (United states)

            Following Image shows my language setting from my XP

            Following Image shows the system variable format setting from my XP

            Let me know if you need anything else to solve this problems.

              One more clue. With simulation data feed , it does draw chart.

              Plus I can open, edit and compile any of indicators scripts and strategy scripts.

                Unfortunately we would not know what's causing your issues.

                However, I noticed one oddity with your settings: your decimal symbol is the same as your digit group setting, which likely is incorrect: check out the sample positive and negative numbers on top of the "Numbers" tab.

                  Hi

                  NinjaTrader_Dierk , that is very good point. and I think the NT just start to work.

                  Thanks a lot.

                  I think NT certainly got a good potential over tradestation and wealthlab.

                  I have just played around with your optimizing. My opintion about optimization speed is this

                  MT4(Metatrader4) > = Tradestation > wealth lab >=NT

                  Hope this helps for your development of next version.

                  Thanks

                    Thanks for feedback. To clarify: you're saying NT would be slowest and MT4 the fastest in optimization speed?

                      Yes , it is based on optimizing 5 millions differnent combinations without using any Genetic optimization.

                      If I can go bit more details about that, NT's remaning time calculation during optimization varied too much while other platform roughly gives good approximation of time remaining to user.

                      NT has a strength too.
                      NT has a good plished look, intutive interface (easy to use) and most importantly extended brokage choice (including some ECN borkers) which can have a good score over tradestation and wealth lab.

                      Only give this feedback with a wish to help your development because I feel like that I will love your platform.

                      Thanks

                        Your experience is different than results from our internal tests, which we run from time to run: NT there always is way faster than TS.

                        Curious, could you please provide us:
                        - your NT and TS strategy you are testing
                        - the parameter set you run an optimization on
                        - the time frame you want to optimize (1 minute bars, else?)
                        - the lookback period you are optimizing (from/to)

                        We wanted to take a look to better understand why you have a different experience than we and most of our users.

                        Thanks in advance

                          Thanks in advance

                          I used this and made up 5 millions different combinations.
                          Used MSFT symbol for 2 years daily data.

                          For tradestation, I can't remember clearly since I only tested for a long time ago but I think it was "Moving average 3 Line Cross LE (for Buy) and
                          Moving Average Cross LX (to Sell) ( I think you must have them in your tradestation as they are only sample strategy).

                          I made up about 6 millions differrent combinations on MSFT symbol for daily chart. ( 50 steps for each parameters)

                          I think it took me about 20 hours on tradestation when I tested.

                          On NT , I think i run for 5 hours but the estimated remaining time was still 20 hours but I did not believe it as my status bar was only filled very little . (i.e. it looked it will take a lot longer than 20 hours).

                          I aborted after 5 hours of running with NT.

                          My machines are only avearge dual core machine. You can probably test on your high spec machine.

                          Let me know how long it takes with your high spec machine.

                          Thanks

                            Thanks for your feedback. Could you please post the equivalent TS EasyLanguage strategy you tested against?

                              Try this. You can set 50 steps for each moving average length parameters (they will make something over 5 million combinations)

                              inputs: Price( Close ), FastLength( 4 ), MedLength( 9 ), SlowLength( 18 ), Length( 9 ) ;

                              variables: FastAvg( 0 ), MedAvg( 0 ), SlowAvg( 0 ), Avg( 0 ) ;

                              FastAvg = AverageFC( Price, FastLength ) ;
                              MedAvg = AverageFC( Price, MedLength ) ;
                              SlowAvg = AverageFC( Price, SlowLength ) ;
                              Avg = AverageFC( Price, Length ) ;

                              Condition1 = Price > FastAvg and FastAvg > MedAvg and MedAvg > SlowAvg ;

                              if CurrentBar > 1 and Condition1 and Condition1[1] = false then
                              Buy ( "TestBuy" ) next bar at market ;

                              if CurrentBar > 1 and Price crosses under Avg then
                              Sell ( "TestSell" ) next bar at market ;
