Live NT account connections into IB

Hi guys,

We're in the final testing stages before live trading through an IB account and have purchased NInja lisence last friday.

We have a papertrade account setup in IB now similar to what another user posted for his fx account.

We're having a bit of trouble connecting NT to IB with esignal running in the background.
Do we need to have TWS running first before connecting NT to IB, then connect NT to esignal to get historical data so the indicators will work correctly?
Now, with the live account, will we "see" the trades go through to the paper trading account within IB or will they still stay within Ninja?

When setting up IB as a broker, do we have IB feed as primary and esignal as secondary?


Sorry for all the questions, just want to get this running correctly before switching to live trading account

Hello Leonie,

It is not necessary to have TWS opened before connecting to IB in NinjaTrader if 'Auto logon' is enabled in your IB connection in NinjaTrader. If disabled, you will need to open TWS first.

Yes, you can trade the IB account. Make sure the live license is entered under Help-->License Key. Connect to the IB paper trade connection. Uncheck 'Global Simulation Mode' under Control Center-->File. You will now be able to select the IB paper trading account in any NinjaTrader order entry window.

You can also choose to connect to eSignal first and IB second as well. The first connection will provide data into NinjaTrader. Only when the first connection does not support an instrument type (stock, future, forex, index), NinjaTrader will retrieve the data from the second connection.

Does it mean if "Auto logon' is enabled in my IB connection in NinjaTrader, NT (once started) can automatically connect to IB TWS even TWS is not opened on my PC? Currently my TWS account has STP
(a kind of dynamic security code from IB needed for logon) enabled, does it mean I do not even need to logon to TWS(with STP), NT can directly connects to IB TWS once started?

It means when you login to IB via NT, TWS will open and login automatically.

Thanks for clarification. For IB live account, most accounts have STP security enabled, that is, to login to TWS, you need to input: username+passpowrd+STP security code,
Since STP security code can not be hard coded in NT, so I believe the auto logon is actually not possible, but anyway NT will launch TWS GUI automatically.

Correct, TWS will be launched automatically and opens the windows to enter the security code.

It will not automatically log you in when your account uses such a code; you would need to enter the security code manually.
