    Can't import data

I have a tick data file titled YM 06-08.txt, the data is in the correct format as outlined in the help section under import. When I attempt to import it I get a log message saying "Unable to import file 'C:\Documents and Settings\Max\Desktop\YM 06-08.txt'. Instrument is not supported by repository."

The symbol YM exists in the Instrument Manager already... I seem to be doing everything correctly but no import...

Hi Max, which kind of interval is this file in? Can you send this to me at support at ninjatrader dot com Attn Bertrand so I can take a look? Thanks!

i am also having this problem. 1 minute bars. my text file is formatted correctly. the name of the text file is

      data.txt.

do i name it "data" or "data.txt" in the Instrument Manager? Regardless, I tried both ways and still can't get it to work.

here's an example of the data in my text file:

      Code:
      20050515 194500;69.09;69.09;69.09;69.09;1
      20050515 194600;69.08;69.08;69.08;69.08;1
      20050515 195000;69.06;69.06;69.06;69.06;1
      20050515 195100;69.06;69.06;69.04;69.04;2
      20050515 195300;69.02;69.02;69.01;69.01;2
      20050515 195500;69.04;69.04;69.04;69.04;2

        Hello whitebelt,

        Thank you for your post.

Do you receive an error message in your log tab when importing this data?

You will want to name the text file the same as the instrument you are trying to import the data to. For example, if importing ES data, you would name the text file ES 06-09.txt.

yes, i received the error message in the log tab.

lets say my data is 10 years of 1 minute Crude Oil (CL) data. the name of the text file is data.txt.

what do i need to do?

            Hi whitebelt,

            Thank you for your reply.

1.) What did the error message in the log tab report?

2.) In this case, you would name the file CL 06-09.txt. After renaming, you would then import the data using the steps listed at the following link: http://www.ninjatrader-support.com/H...V6/Import.html

              1) Instrument is not supported by repository.

              2) Do I need to create a new instrument in Instrument Manager? What would be the expiration?

                Hi whitebelt,

                Thank you for your reply.

1.) Please ensure the .txt file has the same name as the instrument name in NinjaTrader.

2.) The CL instrument is present in the instrument list by default. You should not need to create this instrument.

The interval is ticks. Ok, I edited the file to make it smaller, left the beginning and end parts intact... The thing has been opened and saved with different programs like Excel, Wordpad and Notepad. I wonder if subtle changes can occur?

                    Hello,

This is beyond the level of support we provide, however you may lose some formatting if you do this.
