    Connection Problems with TT

    Hello,

we purchased Ninja Trader some days ago. We have problems to connect to TT. For example we could connect the whole week at 1 am CST and wasn´t able to connect at 4:30 pm CST. And today the first time we could connect was 10 minutes ago (11:05 am CST).
What could be the reason for these connection problems and why can´t we use the "Reload Historical Data" function on chart? "Reload Historical Data" is all the time grey, that means I can´t click on it. And another thing is that it´s not possible to use (Tools --> Historical Data -->) "Reload" function.

    Hello Jesse,

    Thank you for your post.

A connection state between NinjaTrader and your broker/market data vendor is not dictated by NinjaTrader. The NinjaTrader application only reports the connection state as it is reported by the API you are connected through. NinjaTrader behaves like a radio receiver in that it receives signals from the connected server. If the signals are not coming through, the underlying broker/market data vendor API reports this to the NinjaTrader application which in turn reports this back to you.

Common reasons that contribute to connection stability are:
    • ISP issues
    • Hardware firewall changing IP addresses frequently
    • Dynamic IP addresses changing frequently intraday. Usually this happens once a week buy you may want to check with your ISP. If they do change daily, requesting a static IP address may help.
    • With Windows XP SP2, if you have more than 10 open TCPIP socket connections (10 programs making socket connections through the internet) Windows will randomly shut down some connections
    • Broker/market data servers may be experiencing temporary downtime

In regard to the historical data, this would be expected if attempting to load daily data as TT does not provide historical daily data. You should be able to access historical data in tick and minute formats. Is this not the case?

No, we are using a Minute-Chart and it is not possible. Even Tools -> Historical Data -> Reload ist grayed out, while we are connected to our Broker using the TT-API. The connection status in the bottom left corner is green.

Our ISP won't be the problem; it is a normal connection and we have two ISPs, which we tried both.

The error message is as following for the first try:
"Login failed: The Fix server is not responding, unable to connect"

For the following tries to connect, it is as following:
"Login failed: Unable to intialize API: Configuration failed: Could not open body file"

        Hello GerTrader,

        Thank you for your post.

Please disable any antivirusl firewalls or other protection software and then restart NinjaTrader and see if it works. If yes, you just need to add ninjatrader.com to the exception list (safe list) for your firewall software.

Please let me know if the issue persists after this procedure.

          Hello,

I deactivated antivirus software and the windows firewall, but nothing changed. Maybe my router is a problem too, because it got a firewall as well. Could you please give me the port for NinjaTrader to gain access.

            Hello Jesse,

            Thank you for your reply.

NinjaTrader submit HTTP requests to www.ninjatrader.com, www.ninjatrader-support.com and www.ninjatrader-support2.com.
In addition broker/provider software would connect to their servers which would be beyond our control. However, the respective broker/provider should have the information available. For some setups you could find that information in the account connection wizard.

Hello, we have disabled every antivirus/firewall software and have enabled all necessary ports in the router. And the function "reload historical data" and "Tools -> historical data -> reload" are still grayed out while connected.

We are using TT with AdvantageFutures.

Previously, we had a ZenFire-Demo-Feed, where we did not had any connection problems and there was no problem with reload historical data. It wasn't grayed out and it worked. But AF does not support ZenFire, so we are using TT now.

                    Hello GerTrader,

                    Thank you for your reply.

What interval are you attempting to reload historical data in?
If you are attempting to reload daily data, this is expected behavior as TT does not provide historical daily data.

We are trying to reload minute data. We know that daily data is not supported. While in a minute graph (or 10-minute-graph) and while connected, the function "reload historical data" is grayed out.

even in the menu: Tools -> Historical Data -> Reload ist grayed out while connected. This shouldn't be that way anyway because you could only decide afterwards if you want to reload daily or minute data.
