    SendMail() error

Hi, I get an error when I use the SendMail() method.

"Failed to send mail ('test'): 503 #5.3.3 AUTH not available"

I've verified all my mail settings several times and everything seems correct.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks,

    CS

    Hello,

I am not sure, sorry. Try the ideas at the bottom of this link and see if that helps:

I followed the help guide but it doesn't work. I've tried the default and my isp's mail server. Nothing works.

When I use the default server, I get the error message:

"Failed to send test mail: Error connecting to server. 81.169.163.72"

When I use my isp's server, I get the error message:

'Failed to send test mail: 503 #5.3.3 AUTH not available"

Is there anyone at NT that can help? The Help Guide is clearly inadequate.

          Can you elaborate?

I've already tried sending mail with my isp username and password. This doesn't work.

Are there other credentials you are referring to?

CS, which port did you enter? Not all ISP's use the default one of 25 for authorization.

              I kept the default, 25.

This is the same as my outgoing server setting in Microsoft Outlook and it works fine.

              Anything else?

Unfortunately not, I would suggest checking with your ISP on the error message you get - do you need to receive POP3 mails first to have the SMTP 'door' open for a given time window?

I am able to use the SmtpClient Class from the System.Net.Mail namespace to send mail from NT. This works without any problems for sending email and text messages.

I don't know how the NT SendMail() method works as it is poorly documented, apparently poorly understood and poorly supported. Fortunately, the SmtpClient Class eliminates the need for this method.

However, if you have any documentation for NT SendMail() method (not the help guide as this is useless), I'd like to see it as I'm curious as to why it doesn't work no matter what I try. Does it use a different class than the SmtpClient? If there is no further documentation, why does NT create undocumented methods that don't work? It's a waste of everyone's time!

Through the forum, I've noticed others who have encountered the same problem and received no support from NT. They also were able to use the SmtpClient Class successfully.

SendMail() works as advertised. You input in the parameters and provided you have your settings done in the Tools->Options it will work.

Josh, I respectfully disagree. SendMail() does not work at all for me. It may work for some people but not for me. I think I've tried everything and it still doesn't work. If you can tell me exactly what to put in the settings to get it to work, then you can change my mind. Your response provided no help.

Don't just take it from me. After reviewing some of the posts in your forum, it appears that others are having the same problem.

But like I said, the SmtpClient Class works fine and the NT SendMail() method is not required.

Thank you for your comments. Unfortunately some people are just not able to get the mail feature to work. I am closing this case now since you already have a solution that works for you.

Thanks Josh, I appreciate your honesty in admitting that SendMail() doesn't work for some people. You might want to put it on your todo list to fix it so it works for everybody. I think that's the kind of support your customers are looking for.
