    backtest apple

    Hi there,
I am new to NT and I am having trouble getting results backtesting. I am connected to IB and trying to Backtest AAPL with the samplemacdcrossover strategy. I set it to go back one month, but when its finished all the results are 0.00% like nothing happened. I have tried by default qty and by strategy.
Which brings me to another question. Where do you change the default Qty?

Thanks in advance for the help.

Are you connected to a live IB trading account or just a sim one? The sim one does not provide historical data which is required to run a backtest.

      No, I am running sim.

I have strategies running in sim though. One that I made through a tutorial (3 EMAs) and the samplemacross. Nothing seems to be happenning. shouldn't I be able to run a sample strategy and see sample results while connected to IB during trading hours?

Sorry for such basic questions I am just trying to get the hang of NT

        beezerlm,

NinjaTrader will not have enough data to run any meaningful backtest. You will need to get a data provider that supplies historical data. If you just want to play around I suggest the Yahoo connection which will get you free historical daily data for equities.

          Hi Josh,
I think you misunderstood my last post. I am also trying to run a real time strategy in NT (sim) but nothing is happening ( no hypothetical trades taking place ).

For a strategy to begin running you need at least 20 bars. Please check your Control Center logs for any runtime errors.

Hi there, you can set DefaultQuantity in the backtest information box. I've attached a picture showing what I mean.
