    Tick Backup / Backfill from Gain w/ IB Connection Problem

    When I connect with Gain first, then IB and open a chart it's always limited to IB historical tick data, which is nothing. I have backup datafeed as Gain, but its not backing up the IB connection. If IB drops the connection, Gain does not provide the data.

    Then if I disconnect from IB and open chart back up w/ Gain, there is no backfill from Gain AND the charts don't update.....

    My question is, how do I use IB as my broker and get backfill and backup tick data from Gain?

    Thank you for your post.

    When testing on my end, I do receive the historical tick data from GAIN.


    1.) Please click Tools > Account Connections. In the account connections menu, select the GAIN connection and click edit.
    In the screen where you give the connection a name, are you using the GAIN servers or the NinjaTrader servers for historical data?

    2.) To confirm, you receive no historical tick data even when connected only to GAIN?

      I am using Ninja Trader servers for historical data.

      A new chart from a new workbook will backfill data from Gain connection if IB is not connected as well.

      First you have to connect Gain, then connect IB. Then try to get tick chart w/ backfill. If you can get that done, Id love to know how.

      2nd test on your end: Connect Gain, then IB w/ Gain as backup data feed. Disconnect IB and see if your charts keep updating w/ the Gain backup - mine dont.

        Thank you for your reply.

        1.) This was the test I ran initially. I did receive historical and live data on each pair I tested.

        2.) In this case, my charts also kept updating.

        3.) You mentioned that the Gain connection seems to back fill if you open a new workspace. Can you run the two tests you mentioned in a new workspace and let me know what the results are?

          New workspace, new chart, with Gain connected first, then IB. Creates a blank chart that doesn't backfill.

          If I do a pair I've never opened it backfills. However if I do a pair that I have opened previously it does not backfill even w/ new chart and new workspace. The tick chart just comes up blank.

          Update:
          I tried deleting historical data, then repairing the database.
          Charts that I've opened previously are not backfilling

          My goals are:
          1. To be able to open a tick chart and trade from it in less then < 5 min.
          2. To collect tick data to sim trade.

          If I have to delete, repair, create new workspace, and new chart each time...

            If you right click in your tick chart and select Reload Historical Data, will the chart populate with historical data?

                  Disconnected from IB, tried to reload AUDUSD tick chart. Does not backfill.
                  New workspace, new chart, AUD - no backfill.
                  Delete hist data, disconnect gain, repair db, connect gain, new workspace, new chart, and drumroll please....

                  no backfill

                  even tried reinstalling once before and no new backfill
