Applying SMA and EMA to Volume Bars

Obviously SMA and EMA can be applied to price bars but is it possible to do this to volume bars?
    Thanks in advance

    Hello chrisp,

Yes, please select a Volume interval in your chart. Subsequently apply an EMA or SMA to the chart.

Make sure you have access to historical tick data which is used to create volume charts.

Thanks Jason, maybe I'm being obtuse but if I click on indicator>EMA the explanation panel states that the EMA applies to price. I do not see any option to apply an EMA to the volume bars.

Jason misinterpreted what you said and thought you meant a volume chart. Try the standard VOLMA indicator.

Thanks for your help. I'm actually looking for an MA/EMA overlay on the vol bars (as is the case with the price bars), so that I can see the relation between the average and individual bars. The VOLMA does not do this.
I think the answer is that NT's standard indicators do not allow this. It is possible however as part of the Better Volume Indicator.
          Anyway, thanks again.

            Hello chrisp,

Correct, unfortunately this is not supported using the default indicators. However, you can create custom indicators using NinjaScript. Information regarding custom NinjaScript indicators can be found at the link below.

I am not sure if the custom Better Volume indicator will plot what you like. I suggest to test it on your end.

              Chrisp,

I decided to use your request as an exercise to test my new programming skills.

You have the options of displaying either SMA or EMA of Volume.

You also have the option to display both.

You also have the option to turn the volume bars in the display on or off.

              It was Fun!!!

              Enjoy,
