    Pivots

    I have a minor yet annoying problem with my Pivot Calculations. The text on my chart(s) states "Insufficient historical data to calculate pivots. Increase chart look back period (days back)".

    I have gotten this message on each version up to my current one (.11) even though the pivots, S, and R levels appear to be calculated and displayed properly. Tick charts, time, volume, it doen's matter. It displays this message in panel one of my charts whether it is set to 5 or 60 days back. The thing that bothers me is that it is superimposed over my tick or volume counter, making it difficult to read and I would rather not assign them to a different panel.

    The problem goes away after a reboot and restart of the app., but naturally, I don't always want to do that, and it returns after a reconnect to my data feed (Zen). Is this just a quirk that will be resolved in v7?

    Hello BigAAPL,

    Thank you for your post.

    1.) If you open a new workspace (File > Workspaces > New Workspace) and open a new chart there within, do you see the same occur?

    2.) If you right click in the chart and select properties, then set the Show Unstable Period for Indicators to a value of True, do you see the same?

        You mentioned that you were using Zen-Fire.
        Are you entering the User defined OHLC settings in the instrument?

          No, I am not and the default settings of 0 remain.

              Yes, when I manually enter the prior day's OHLC the text goes away.

                Since Zen-Fire does not provide data in daily formats, the pivots indicator must be manually loaded with the prior day's OHLC in order to calculate properly.

                  Thanks Kyle, but I simply restarted and the problem went away as I stated in my first post. Tomorrow, upon reconnection to my data stream, it will reappear. But I do have a question:

                  I understand that ZenFire does not supply historical daily data, it does however, supply prior day OHLC which I also have up on my charts. So, is it fair to say that Ninja is using this data to automatically calculate the Pivots and Support and Resistance levels without 'user defined inputs'? Because, the bottom line is, it always calculates correctly without my 'user defined inputs', it is simply the text message on my charts that is stating that it cannot do so.

                    Thank you for your reply and the clarification.



                    It sounds like NinjaTrader is calculating using the OHLC data then. In some cases, this will not work and you would need to enter that information manually.
